I recently saw the Famer's Almanac is calling for a cold and snowy winter for the Northeastern part of the U.S.  and if this holds true the problem could be that we don't get good ice before we get a lot of snow.  Snow slows down the formation of ice so I'm hoping we get good ice then the snow.  After last years pathetic season and the lousy season before that we're due for a good ice season.

Yes, we will get ice.  Already forming in select locations.  I fished all season in CT last year.  It wasn't pathetic and there was safe ice out there...

Weather service says could be snowier than normal, but a bit warmer than normals. Sounds like another year like last year.

I found a local pond last year with 5" clear ice and 4" white ice. consistent thickness. told my brother about it and he kept telling me not safe. I told him that we wouldn't be driving a car out. his loss. caught a lot of fish

Sure hope so.  I'm up in Woodstock and the neighbors farm pond has a skin most mornings.  Taking it as encouragement that there will be some ice in the new year.  Last few years have been hitting Pontanipo in New Hampshire and lakes in Western New York.  Will be my first year getting out in Woodstock area.

We will have plenty of ice this year even down to the beaches long range forecast is looking very cold starting after 12/8 and staying until mid Jan possibly. I bet we will be ice fishing in ct by the new year  guys are already fishing for a week on small shallow ponds and lakes in the Adirondacks above 1500ft it's coming guys and gals be patient

I'm with Ed. The long range looks pretty good, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for around New Years. I was on ice last week, in northern Maine while hunting. It was pretty much on schedule, the last week or so of November.

Just got back from over in that area.  When I got to the hudson valley around 7 near albany it was 48.  It was wet at 1500ft this evening.
