Guys from other states are welcome to join this countdown, I just do it every year for SD because we always start around the same time every year here. 87 days til the day after Thanksgiving Day and no better way to give thanks than to get out into nature and get some delicious cold water fish! :tipup: :tipup: :tipup:

If things keep going the way they are, temp-wise, I believe I'll be on the ice in NE Wis by turkey day. I have a trip up planned with 5 buddies for the first week in Dec, that should be no problem.

Hopefully I'll have all my toys bought and be on the ice by turkey day! One can only hope I anyways haha

I'm the same way. I have everything I need and it all kicks butt. Hard to get excited about just spending more money for no reason. But....I'm sure something will eventually get my attention and therefore my money. 86!! :tipup: :tipup: :tipup:

As much as I love ice fishing I couldn't ever turn down deer hunting because I hunt with my Dad and Brother.

82! Actually Icehut, unless I see something that blows my mind, I'm prolly gonna hang onto my money. I love the stuff I have and even tho some of its getting old,(10 yr old FL18, 7 yr old SM224 auger) Its still the best out there IMO. I do have a lot of tipups that I don't use now that I'm into ice riggers.

Prob is, I'm in the SE part of the state...and it's 79 right now. That isn't a real deep (35') lake I get the daily temp on. Actually, wide part of the Zumbro River. Upper 70's to 80's for the next week, I think Summer is back. ::)

32! Yes, I was busy catching a 4.5 pound bass and some perch. Pretty cold, I could see my breath til about 11am. 50 degree water.That Striker climate suit is awesome. I haven't been to Sioux Falls for decades Wyo, maybe someone will chime in.

I just thought with the rod handles (cork ones, so no "flex") and a couple of layers of clear whatever over them to protect and bring out detail, might be neat. Hmmm..I think we just gave some company an idea.... ::)

25! Got limits of big bluegills, a few pike (small, released) and a couple of big trout at Pactola yesterday. Only 3 other boats on the lake. There aren't enough fishermen in this area to ruin a spot. Even so, everyone fishes differently and may not always get the same results. I haven't been out yet, but since there is some ice now, I'll prolly go next week. :tipup: :tipup: :tipup:

Being new to the rapid area if anyone has some general spots where a new guy can pick up some gills, perch or crappie I would appreciate it. I'm not asking for coordinates or anything just general like north side of so and so lake.
There are a few good places around-ish. Stockade Lake in Custer State Park is a good place for all of those. The issue there is the grubs in the fish. If you're looking just to catch, it's a good spot. They say they don't hurt the meat but a lot of people don't like to eat them.
Sheridan Lake has some good perch too. You'll really have to move around and search for them. East of Rapid, New Underwood Dam has/had some nice 'gills. There was a pretty substantial fish kill this year but there are still some good ones left. New Wall Dam also has some good 'Gills and Perch. It's got nice bass and some decent Northern in it as well. Hope this helps.

I will still take perch from Stockade. I just pick the grubs out with my fillet knife. Its super easy and those perch are so big from being under harvested that its worth the extra effort. :tipup: :tipup: :tipup:

Roubaix Lake is always good for some easy bites for me to take my kids. It helps them stay excited about getting out. All I caught out of Curlew this last spring were Catfish. I want to get out on Jenny's Gulch this winter.

I have always done well on Stockade for fat perch and bull gills. Try the west side by the dock and the opposite side near the picnic area. I've also caught some nice LMB and my biggest smallie through the ice on this lake.

I will be going out on friday! Roy, will you still sticking to your goal and trying it out? anyone know where the thickest ice is? I think the 385 area of Sheridan or Stockade will be a good bet. Either way im going fishing. Good luck everyone!

Hey guys, pretty new to the ice shanty community but I have been ice fishing in the hills and surrounding area for a few years now. I got onto new underwood dam on Monday. Limit of blue gill and six or seven perch. Hope everyone has a good holiday!

Right on! Seems that lake has the best ice and a good Panfish bite as well.

Sorry muskie9, I tweaked my back a couple of days ago and I've been flat on it since. I couldn't even sit at my pc til now. My big plans for Black Friday are waiting til next Friday. Still Stockade though. Glad everyone is getting out and catching some. I guess this countdown is officially over and now we get to start bragging about our fish! :tipup: :tipup: :tipup:

Well this morning I was able to put my shoes on without screaming so I guess that's progress. Thanks Wyo. Even though I'm getting a late start, I know that at least the ice will be good. I'll feel safe taking Boner to Stockade now. :tipup: :tipup: :tipup:
