Alright this is super premature and excessive but who cares its getting colder!!
I've entered in all the temperature forecasts to an excel spreadsheet **by hour** starting on 1/4 at 9 PM. All temps are forecasted for NE Indiana via wunderground.
Why this specific time you ask? Based on the forecasted temps and wind, we should have a good skim of ice waking up Friday morning on most lakes in NE indiana.
BUT... I'm super nervous about the wind and precipiation that picks up next tuesday, so I calculated how many FDDs we will get from 1/4 9PM - 1/8 11PM... And that number is is 18.37 FDDs...
That puts us at just over an inch of ice prior to the slight warm up/rain/wind BASED ON CURRENT projections. Could be more, could be less by 1/8 but will keep track of actual ice up and actual temps.
So, the real question... Do we think an inch of black ice can make it through 15-20 MPH sustained winds over 24ish hours?? If it can, temps will drop again and we can really start packing on some ice. If not, it will be tricky to get lakes to lock up again.
I said it before... this is when I start to get really obsessive over temperatures. Fingers crossed everyone
