Can you guys share you tips on keeping you live bait ALIVE!?!?

I use a small 110V aereator from Bass Pro. New water every few days. Don't use tap water if its chlorinated, kills them quick. good to keep them cool/cold if possible, warm minnows go into shock and often when throuwn into the cold water when fishing. golden shiners and mud minnows are hardier and easier to keep. emeralds are a pain, they'll die sometimes if you look at them to hard.

After reading your question last night I had to get-up at 2am and try something to get an answer. [Could'nt sleep] I went to my minnow bucket and pulled out two volunteers. 1. was a jumpy little fellow, always darting around the bucket, top to bottom, side to side. 2. was sort of lay back type of guy. Just happy floating around, checking everyone else out and just being cool. 8) I took'em both and layed them on my workbench. No. 1 was just like he was in the bucket, jumping up and down, flopping all over the place almost landing on the floor a few times. No. 2 8) what can I say, just laid there like he did,nt have a care in the world. After observing this activity for about 20 mins. it became quite obvious that No. 1 :Dwas dying first. The first and second times were OK, but the third time I swatted him to keep him on the bench was just more than he could handle. I almost thought I had done something wrong, and was really starting to feel rotten...but then...there was 8) N0.2!!!!! I picked him up, slipped him back into the bucket and up to a couple hours ago when I checked last, he was still the Cool swiming Fool!!!!! ;) ;)

what happens to spikes if you put them in fridge?

I keep my minnows in a 3 litre insulated Coleman water jug. Change the water a couple of times and your minnows are alive all day and good for the next trip out.

I keep waxworms, mousies and spikes in the fridge all winter long. Seeems to me they keep as easy as nightcrawlers and worms. I have a few die and turn black every week but I just pick through them and throw away the dead ones. It seems to me one of the worst things for these larvae forms is a freeze. I keep them in an inside shirt pocket while on the ice.

I have 5000 or so spikes and I was told by the people who sold them to me that they need to be kept at a temp. of 34-45 deg. Hope this helps.

hello all, keeping bait alive was a problem for me too. i started
putting aquasafe in when changing h2o, and no more troubles
it neutralizes chlorine,and heavy metals harmful to fish.
you only need one teaspoon for every 10gals of water.
wal mart has it for a couple bucks for small bottle 3.38 fl oz.
