Waxies alittle easier to get on the hook on them cold days.
NEVER lied about the size of the fish I caught.....just remember them being BIGGER!!

i like maggots best, hearty and can get more fish without re-baiting. but waxies flutter better when jigged and can produce better bite when they are bein hard to catch. also sometimes hte waxies are too large when you want to down size your bait...

I generally prefer spikes but if I am after crappies I will often switch to waxies.  The larger profile makes them sink at a slower rate and I get a lot of crappies that will hit on the drop.  Vice versa, spikes will drop faster and are nice when fishing deeper water with light jigs.  Good fishin

DEPENDS ON WHAT YOUR FISHING FOR. IF THE CRAPPIES ARE THERE THEN WAXIES ALL THE WAY!! IF ALL YOUR FINDING IS GILLS GO WITH THE MAGGOTS. YOU'LL HAVE LESS MISSES AND WON'T HAVE TO BAIT UP AS MUCH.

I think it's an apples to oranges thing. There are so many variable; among them, size and species of fish, fishes mood, and maybe most important size and type of jig or spoon. I always try to have both in my pocket, and show the mousies some love as well.

i disagree, alot of days i've out fished someone using maggots when im using waxies for big bluegills, im a fan of waxies for blue gills, spoons for crappies tipped with a wax or a few maggots on each hook, ii've also used a frosty and caught plenty of crappies with it fishing it clean,(only when they are really in a frenzy) i tend to use No bait as of the past 3 years, with all the finesse plastics..i force the fish to eat..  ;D and its not a joke..

We can have waxies, mealies and nightcrawlers in the fridge, but not maggots.  And I'm not getting away with calling them "spikes", she knows that one already.  Oh well :-\

I started the season with wax worms because nobody had
spikes yet. I tell you what I have a much more
productive day with spikes(maggots). All around better bait
for durability, less misses, keep fresh in fridge longer and
I can go on and on.

I think it has a lot to do with it being later in the winter nw/. Not many larvae baits naturally in the lakes right now, they're dormant. I always have better luck with minis later in the season.

Prefer maggots over waxies myself.

Mousee grubs wouldn't know where to get them, by the way maggots for durability, waxies for when their gulpin em' down.
Never get excited there's a reason for everything,I just don't know what it is??
