drop shot
« on: Dec 04, 2010, 09:35 PM »
I would like to try a drop shot rig this year.  What kind of knot would you use to keep the hook horizontal? I haven't seen any size 14 drop shot specific hooks.
Dude.....Dude!! Greg! Wake up! You're on fire!

I use the improved Clinch knot.

You can find it here :

Just remember that you will need to adjust the knot every so often to keep the jig horizontal.

Hope this helps,

Wiener

Palomar will work.

I personally do it a little different.  I like my hook to be a little off the main line.

i think you can do it with any knot, i recommend the palomar knot. just make sure after you tie the knot you run the tag end back through the top of the hook eye and to your weight, youtube it. you should be able to learn how to do it then

Find stand out hooks.  Tie to the bump and put the line back through the eye. Guarantee straight everytime!!!

I played with dropshotting the past few years and from my experiences it was best when fish were suspend and spooky, or shallow pressured fish and you wanted to target the bigger fish. I like to use a #12 or #14 hook, tie it on with a Palomar knot, and leave a 4-8" leader to 1or 2 bb sized split shot. I used allot a different plastics on my dropshot but the 2 that worked the be for me was the powerbait wiggler or the Little Atom Nuggie.
