What brand of line do you guys use?

Curious what type/brand of line people use for gills, I used firelines micro ice last year and was very disappointed. So lets hear it!

I was going to use the micro ice, but heard bad reviews about it. Glad I took it back. I'm going to start with whatever came spooled on my combos. If I don't like that I'll probably switch to some vicious panfish ice or berkley vanish. I personally don't get into the brand game too much when it comes to line. I buy something I think will work. If it works and I like it I use it, if not I get something else the next time around.

Asso, is super thin for UL jigs, but crazy strong as well. I have been buying spools for years now. works great as a leader, you dont want to spool up a whole reel

I use ASSO 4# test.  It's pretty fine (.006 dia) which is about the same as Trilene Micro Ice 2# test line.

I use 3# P Line Floroclear.  Have been very happy with it.  Tried there 2# and lost several big gills and crappies.  Went to the 3# and will never go back.  Fin

I use trilene micro ice. Ive never had it snap on me while reeling in a fish. the only time it snapped on me was on reeaallyy cold days, the line gets frosty, and when i would pull a new knot tight, it would snap. that only happened twice. I like it.

Asso Micron 3 in 2# as the base line for panfish, and use short leaders down to 8oz if I have too. Stuffs tough as anything, stays straight and sinks like a rock

p-line cx premium green 2# for gills, crappies and perch (and a 9#+ bass last winter) and the same stuff in 4# for eye's (2over 10# last year)...did i mention you can pick up the stuff REALLY cheap on e-bay?  like $6 for a 1000 yard spool.....

My panfish (gill and crappie) rods have Suffix Ice Braid in orange (only comes in 6lbs but is it 2lb diameter) with a 4lbs Vanish leader. seemed to work VERY well last year.

I use many different tests and styles. But the common ground between them all is Fireline! That's all I'll use. From the boat, of through a hole, the only thing on any of my reels is Fireline.
I have 4, 6, and 8lb micro ice spooled fresh for this year.

Berkley trilene cold weather in 6lb and 3 lb. in ice blue. Havn't broke it and stays straight, no coiling

i had no problems with it and it does look good. like was said all we need is ice . i remember two years ago was on channels day after thanksgiving but i dont see that happening more like first week of december.

yep used to have all my rods spooled with Stren gold then moved to power pro yellow and never looked back.

I'll have to look into that, haven't seen it around here. I'll check Cabelas when I visit my folks for Thanksgiving. though, I don't have any complaints with the Stren.

Exactly...I have used 3# floroice for years and last year tried some 2# and same result as you...lost big gills and my favorite expensive fiskas epoxy jigs  
I usually use fireline 4# micro ice main and than floroice leader.  There seems to a huge difference between the 2 and 3 pound pline for some reason. I may have to try gamma or asso this year.

I too had lousy results with 2# Floroice.  Lost a jig just jigging and some small fish that snapped the line.  It was an unbelievably poor line.  No problems with 3# Floroice.

I also got 3 rods spooled up with the Northland line hope its as good as my P-line I had very good luck with 4# for big trout.

gill and crappie rods get spooled with 6 lb suffix ice braid and are tipped with 2 ft of 2 lb vanish. The orange suffix lets me "line watch" which I'm accustomed to and the 2 lb vanish is small enough that I've never had any problems with "spooky" fish but also large enough that the occassional larger fish don't break me off. I'm a meat fisherman though. If I were looking for a stringer of 10" gills I would probably go about it slightly different.

I like to use the smoke fire line for a main line it holds up to the ice then i run a 18-24in lead of vanish 2 pound. it works great 4 me.

Used to use 2# P-line Fluroclear but then I started tightlining and switched to Vicious Ice in 2# but hi-vis yellow. Seems really nice and really affordable. I would probably switch back to P-line if it came in hi-vis yellow or gold but till then the Vicious is good for me.
