Any objections to...

Saturday, January 12

Saturday, January 19

Saturday, February 2 (ground hog day) we could pull a fish out of a hole, and if it sees its shadow we have 6 more weeks of good ice!

I vote January 19th, give us a few weeks in between the holidays and the get together. I'll need a break from work by then anyway!

I'm completely happy with any of those other weekends if someone has any conflict with the 19th. I for one don't ever have anything on my calendar more than a month or two in advance anyway. ;)

The 12th works best for me, as it gives me a weekend break between trips up north, but all 3 are ok.

I'm interested - but will have to see what the calendar looks like as we get closer to that time frame.

I can't believe I am writing this on 10/25. It ain't ice fishing yet! I miss you guys, how was your summer? I grew up with a lake cabin on the south side of Mille Lacs. I would love to fish with you guys in January. I normally fish "Sloppy Joes Bar" a gravel bar a few miles out from the southern shore. I go out of Jerry Brandt's. Man I have done a lot of fishing over the years over by Rocky Reef. We need to go in January if you want walleye!

There is a group coming up from Iowa on the weekend of the 19th. I understand that they are interested in attending.

Does anyone have a reasonable objection to having the 1st annual gathering on Saturday January 19th on Mille Lacs Lake?

Woofta! I had a close call just there. Remembered the family Christmas was going to be in January this year... had to call my parents to be sure the 19th wasn't that weekend. Turns out that I am, in fact, free on the weekend of the 19th.

Count me in!

That is undetermined at this point. I am just trying to pin down a date for folk who may wish to visit us on vacation. Does Lyman's have a place to warm up and grab a burger and beer?

Not sure where Lyman's is???  Are you thinking of Lybacks?  If so, they have neither a bar or restaurant.

We have a couple of different places within a mile of us by Ice road that have bar and restaurants.

I have a little one due in January, but if the tricycle motor pops out early like the last one did, I should be able to make it, at least for the day.

Grilling on the ice sounds good to me!

Anywhere else I would be called an idiot for that statement. 8)

We may have covered this already but any recommendations on a place to stay the night before/after? I don't need anything fancy, just a clean/cheap motel.

Also, do you imagine we'll be driving out to the spot? I personally don't own a seld... I'm moved up from Iowa in August and haven't needed to drive/4wheel/sled out on the ice for many many years. Mille Lacs is a little different than our ponds down south. Could be a MUCH longer hike. ;)

If you are looking for something to plug into map quest, try Isle or Wahkon. The south side of the lake is about 90-120 minutes from Minneapolis.  You would come up HWY 65 if you are from the SE.

A good place to stay... Hmmmm? There are a few Motels around. Perhaps a few of you guys should pool your dough and rent a sleeper shack? The Casino is a good spot, but it is on the other side of the lake. You can try one of my favorite sites for lodging info if you wish>>> www.exploreminnesota.com

As far as getting out there, the resort we leave from will have suitable ice roads. Unless the ice is slushy or very rough, you should have no trouble driving your car out (assuming we have safe ice thickness). If not, I'm sure me or several others with 4x4 trucks would be willing to give you a ride out. At that part of the winter, I don't see us fishing the flats anyhow.

I may be able to make it if I don't have a spearing tourny that weekend.

I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man with no feet and took his shoes.

We need a meeting place!!!!!!!!

LYBACKS

APPLEDOORNS

any other suggestions?

At this point we only need a place to access the lake and iceroads. There is usually a small fee involved with ice road access, but it is never too much. We need to get this thing going here! It is December 3 today!

gota think about parking off the ice too..

I do know Lybacks has enough parks on dry land for 100-150 cars-trucks with trailers
not sure what Appledoorns has yet..

anybody from that area or even paul can confirm whats there for parking ?
