I've caught some bigger lakers in Lake Ontario in the summer, but this is the first time I have tried for them through the ice.  From one of NY's Finger Lakes.  My son and I tried to fish for Lake Trout for the first time ever through the ice yesterday on . My 10 year old son iced a 17" (his first ever) and a nice 29" Lake Trout all by himself.  I iced a 27" (my first through the ice) and a very nice 32" Lake trout.  In addition, I caught a 14" incher while picking up that was just an inch short and went back down the hole.  Lots of fun.  A very nice day for us first timers for trout!

My son with his big laker - 29"

Me with my first laker through the ice - 27"

Me with my 32" laker - what a beauty!

Nice..

I bet your son had lots of fun working in that big Laker!   :)

Those are memories that he'll carry with him for his whole life.

Bet he'd rather go ice fishing for lakers instead of watching sponge bob!

My first and biggest jigging.  Was marking fish with my new x67C Ice Machine on Saturday- but tough to get them to bite after/during Northeast storm.   Saw this one suspended about 60 feet down and sent my tube jig down to intercept - one pump, two pumps and wham - fish on!  15 minutes later - I landed this 30-1/2" laker.  My first ever jigging!  It was neat to see it all on the graph!

That is an amazing Lake Trout I have not caught one that big but my buddy has caught 60lb Lake Trout on Lake Nipigon with a rod and reel there has been a 97lb Lake Trout caught by net I live close by in Thunder Bay Ontario.

I normally fish for specks (Brook Trout) I do my best in the fall when the coasters run last year was a warm year my best a 23 inch male the previous year I caught two 30 inch females and a 25 inch male I kept the male and mounted it.
Again great fish love your pics not all that computer litterate my self and I fish pretty primative but I figure it is more a matter of being there at the right place at the right time (Be There Or Be Square).
Cheers: Patrick ;D

This is one of 8 or 9 we caught this day, they ranged from 28" to 39".  The biggest non Laker was a 21" cutbow, not sure where the pic is.

There are some amazing opportunities here for trout. Some great stocking programs keep the fishery strong.

I see pics from your neck of the woods and drool too. The Great Lakes are amazing - as are the tribs. I grew up in Southern Ontario and miss the trout fishing down there too.
