I am looking to fish the refuge in a couple of weeks but Pelican has always been my main go to for the pan fish can anyone give me a good alternative?  I have tried them all but not in recent years and know how things can change.

Duck, west long, and dewey have all had panfish to catch.
But my next question I hope someone will answer. Im not looking for spots, but I have heard that some lakes are 7 inches and some have no ice or just a few inches but no one shares which lakes have bad ice.Id love if someone could let me know which. The big ones Im wondering about are west long and duck, but I know duck usually is sketchy quick.
Anyone have any recent ice info?

Ice is fine. Fished Hackberry and Dewey with 6-8 inches everywhere. There are a few open spots due to springs. Those spots are very small and easily noticed. We did not look at any other lakes so I am not sure what their condition is. Had fair success on pike and panfish. The bite seemed to be better in the morning. Go catch all the fish in Hackberry! What a shame that was the last time I will probably catch pike there..... :-\
