Smith lake
« on: Mar 07, 2018, 08:56 AM »
Has the wind and warm gotten rid of all the ice on Smith Lake? Any chance of getting out on the ice on Sunday, March 11th?

Was up there last Thursday. The ice was good, fair bite. However, of the 18 perch I cleaned, at least 16 had parasites.  I have them in the freezer, but i'm not sure I can bring myself to eat them. Not going back to Smith this winter!

I had the same issue last week, most of the perch had the yellow grub parasite. I read and re-read as much info as possible and just cut all them out and made sure when I cooked the fish I fried them for over 5 minutes to kill anything, it still grosses me out though

Have been fishing for over 30+ years and have found the the yellow grub/parasite in a variety of fish. I always examine a fillet held up to light and simply cut them out. I have often wondered how many I consumed over the years by not noticing them, I always cook fish well done and have never encountered an issue.

There are no parasites in any of our fish in Nebraska that are a threat to humans, especially if the meat is thoroughly cooked.

If you worry about that kind of thing, you could always release them, ;)
