Spiderwire Stealth.

Anybody use Spiderwire Stealth as  a Leader? Nobody around here had any fluro so I figured it would give it a try. Im using 50 pound test with 4/0 Gamakatsu Circle hooks.

this has been covered a bunch on here. Braid makes a lousy leader because it has poor abrasion resistance. You will get bit off if you use it.

That is what most people say, but there are some people who use braid and have good luck with it...

I personally use floro or steel, although I have never had braid break when I catch a northern unintentionally while bass fishing... so it is all in what you are comfortable with. I would use steel 100% because thats what I am comfortable with, but I know it is not practical in clear water so that is where floro comes in

I use 6" steel leader for everything and never had any problems. I have seen people using this as a leader & they seemed to be doing alright... I guess it is just personal preference.

If you are looking into braid PE fibers then I would look at either Sufix Performance braid or the new Sufix 832 braid.  The 832 braid is a little more costly but it's also just a little stronger as well.

ive used 30# carbon pro. leaders for muskie and had good luck w/ it. if you use steel leaders use the smallest dia. wire you can get away with. ive used 15lb. ones i made myself and they work good for ice fishing. open water i use 30lb.  steel leaders w/ 30lb. braid line w/ a ugly stick rod and had good luck w/ that.

I have tried the spiderwire stealth 50# as leader, thinking that it would be enough to stop the breakoff problem, instead in 1 day i lost 8 hooks, 2 of which were bite -offs that never tripped on the tip ups.  With this being said, IMO stay away from it and stick to either steel or fluorocarbon.

Poor abrasion resistance isn't the only problem. If you do manage to get a big fish to the hole and it takes off while you have the braid in your hand it will cut you to the bone. Steal, titanium, or heavy floro are the only logical options when targeting big pike.

its not bad knots, ive checked them on an MTS.( I have access at  both work and school)  no breakage on knot or free length until 48.732 LB in free lenght, 3 tests each knot, improved cinch, polymer, trilene, blood, and a few others.  highest was on the trilene at 48.795LB.
