Over in the Buffalo area it's 30 degrees with some lake effect snow coming in, but the 15-20mph winds aren't good for making ice

Now I think that should make absolute sense.  ;D  4 + months of good ice, never mind the calendar.  I'll take one month out of every 3, year round.

Yeah but pike/walleye season STILL closes March 15....

Saw some skim ice on the Mohawk/Canal near the twin bridges today early afternoon - thats a good sign. Some road side swamps were frozen over.

I live not far from the Canals that Prchslyer was talking about and the skim ice didn't last long, but its a good sign.

I can almost smell it.

Yeah but pike/walleye season STILL closes March 15....

And opens 1st Saturday in May - we could arrange those months somehow, so as not to miss pike and eye fish'n for the ice month. ?

I had to throw an apple size rock about six feet in the air before it broke through the ice on my pond today.

Oh Ya! 25 this am - all the swamps were froze over with a touch of snow on top.  We are on our way.  I'm sure some, maybe most, of the smaller lakes in the Adirondacks will be fishable soon.  Looking forward to Black Lake in about 12 days  ;D :flex:  :icefish: :icefish: :icefish:

Most of NY is in the high teens and low 20s this morning, we're makin' ice baby!  Long range forecast calls for cold temperatures, just a short warm up on Wednesday with this storm coming through, then below freezing again!   ;D

Anyone else get mad at the accuweather 15 day forecast? Every day it seems to change. That real cold air dissapeared from the 18th on and now is replaced by upper forties here in western NY. I should learn to be patient I guess. It will get here eventually.

Its 30 in granville. The fire pond in front of Great Meadow prison looks like it will be fishable in a couple days. Who's down?

how much snow is supposed to fall ??? Also are you talking about a complete skim of a sizeable pond or lake..like blue mtn etc or is is skim just around the edges....just curious. Been checking various web cams and have only seen partially skim

Hey RD, all the ponds and swamps were locked up on the way to Oneida. But that was still 37-38 degrees, long ways to go yet! Hopefully we'll get a good Lake Effect dumping to cool it down!  :o  31 degrees here!
