What do you do with empty propane tanks?
« on: Jan 24, 2021, 02:53 PM »
Throw them in the recycling bin to save our planet.
Tricking is easy. It’s the killing which is the hard part.

Aside from playing havic with the environment, they don't sink. In the spring they are washed up on someone's beach and then the dirtbag who dumped it gets mad because the access to the lake is shut down. We've been over this many times. Just pickup after yourselves and when you do stumble across the crap left by others just pick it up. I always have a plastic bag or two with me.  You'll feel better for it.

I refill mine if they are in good condition.

They can be recycled in some areas.

You could also look at Flame King refillable one-pound tanks.

Good Luck all

I bought an adapter off Amazon and refill them from my 20lb tank . It cost me about $1.50/refill.

I know I'm going to catch crap for this because I get it every time I mention this: It is not illegal to refill the one lb. propane tanks, but it is illegal to transport them on any Federal highway. It carries a big fine and possible prison. Google it. This is for real. JMTCW!

I've often wondered why they don't do that, too. You think it would be a win/win. Even if they had to change the valve and seal, it would have to be cheaper than producing a whole new can.

There is now a legal refillable option. Those that use a lot of them should consider it, not only from a cost, but also to leave less trash behind us as we go.

Before I went to the refillable tanks, I used to refill them but was always worried because the walls are so thin on those throw away ones. that said, I did have an experience when a compressed cylinder exploded, yeah not fun so I am probably overly cautious due to that incident.

But I just knock out the pressure pin with a screw driver near the top and recycle/scrap them.

I have 2 of those refillable ones and they work great. more money but its worth my peace of mind when I'm refilling them.

Not a problem. I’m putting together a ice fishing manual for the common angler. Simple solutions for pre to post ice fishing.

I got the flame king kit as well along with 3 tanks. The kit was $30 with a tank and got 2 back ups $10 a tank. I can fish all day with heat on high with 3 cans. I refill my 20lb at buell fuel for $12. I figured last year it’s just under $1 a fill. No waist and very easy to do. Made my money back first year especially when you see some places selling tanks $7-$8 a pop

I bought an adapter but never used it. I had a new 1lb tank with a bad valve. After I screwed it off the heater and put it in the trunk, it filled my car with propane. I would never be able to trust a refilled one after that happened with a brand new tank.

Same, i averaged 78 cents a tank last year. I also can get well over 1lb of propane in them. 1 tank will run my budddy on low for ovet 12 hrs.

The tanks are well built and pretty beefy for what they are. I have no doubt the extra propane im putting in is no where near a damger limit of the tank itself
