Anyone know if this is true???
« on: Mar 04, 2019, 08:03 PM »
That a bill is being considered in the Legislature to eliminate derbys and tourneys (any kind that takes wild life) in NY? Saw it on FB and I don't trust most of what is posted on there. Ty.

From what I understand "wildlife" is defined in a way the does not include fish. So even if it passed, fishing would not be affected by this law in any way. There was a very heated debate about this topic on a thread a few weeks ago that I think got locked by the mods.

From what it looks like it’s more towards live animals hunts rather then fishing events but the way it’s worded
Makes it kinda unclear so it could effect fishing tournaments.

I contacted my local assembly person, and was informed that this bill has been brought to the assembly every year since 2003, and never even makes it to a vote.

Remember Albany is all Democrats this year so God only knows what they could screw up

Truthfully I think Derbys take a lot of fish out of the water that wouldn't otherwise have been keep other than for getting in the derby for a chance for a prize. I've never entered  one and never will , if I want to donate to  an organization I do , don't need to do it through a derby

actually bass tourneys save more fish ...... lake is full of boats ,that keeps a lot of local fisherman off that weekend and bass tourneys are catch and release .....

but that's not the real problem here....the problem is to you want some  snowflake  in Albany  telling you what to do? there is no shortage of fish nor wildlife  why should the government say we can't have a tournament or a big buck contest at work????.......remember  we still do have rights ....fight for them

Gotta love how all the bills supporters are from downstate/NYC. They don’t have the slightest clue as to what fishing and hunting mean to those of us up here and the role some of those tournaments play in our local communities. Bunch of clowns.

Snow flake works to describe the local politicians for those at the state level I would more describe as cup cakes. Lol

Yea they looked into it and found that the 5 burrows can not afford the welfare for them selves. I was so bad that no one could afford to live there; without our taxes to give them welfare.

That's absolutely correct....but those city slicker democrats just want to cause  a riff amongst the conscientious law abiding citizens and make it easier for the criminals.
