Waterproofing an older Fishtrap?
« on: Dec 04, 2005, 07:15 PM »
I've got a ten plus year old Fishtrap and when it rains it gets wetter inside
than sitting out on the ice.  The canvass has gotten worn and doesn't have
much waterproofing left.  I thought about using mink oil on the roof to help
fill the pores .  Any ideas.

If everything else is in good shape you may want to contact Clam and find out how much a new tent would cost. The only other alternative I can think of is PermaDri Water Shield  ... I think by Birchwood Casey. It comes in an aerosol can and you spray it on. You may need several cans to do the entire tent. I've used this on boots, gloves, etc. and it works pretty good. This is only a temporary solution and spray it on outside ... it stinks for a while.

Thanks for the good advice guys.  I've got this vintage Fish Trap Magnum Deluxe
that I practically live in all winter and I don't think they make a replacement tarp for this model so I'll just go on sewin' and patchin' on my rig and try the 3m tent waterproofing stuff.  Great to compare notes with other veteran icefishermen.
