Waterproofing Canvas
« on: Jul 11, 2011, 09:47 PM »
Had some time this weekend so I waterproofed the canvas on the Frabill. I used Kiwi Camp Dry. Used one can, one coat on the whole thing and a 2nd coat on the roof and seams. Tested it by spraying with water, water just beaded up and rolled off.

I use the same stuff every season or 2. I have had good results as well.

I did the same. I found out that the water will still leak through the seams since they are stretched and pulled when the shelter is opened. I tried seam seal with no success. I tried a thin bead of clear waterproofing silicone on the seams and that did the trick. If you intend to try the same, let the silicone dry for a week. It will remain tacky until it dries thoroughly.

Does waterproofing help cut the condensation down? I noticed my guardian seems wetter than it used to be, I wonder if its leaking through the seams like you described?
I love fishing. You put that line in the water and you don't know what's on the other end. Your imagination is under there. -Robert Altman

Waterproofing will increase condensation. The water can't get in and it also can't get out. Bring a rag to wipe it off.
