I have a 6x7 insulated permanent shack.  I use a Big Buddy heater hooked up to a 20lb tank.  Way plenty of enough heat!!!!!  I went this route to save space in the shack and alot less mess.  Wood heat is nice and if I had a bigger shack I would maybe go that route but you cant beat the convenience of using a propane heater.  Fin

Ive had both, The wood stove was stolen out of the shanty second year in use >:(. The buddy heater comes home with me each time. I just use the 1lb tanks, I can usaly get threw most of the day on 1 tank. Its a lot less mess and I dont have to wonder if its going to be there when I go out.

If it was me I would go wood, propane doesn't give as nice of a heat (it gives off water vapour) and the shack needs to be vented for intake and exhaust, a wood stove will exhaust its self and pull in fresh air.
But I could see how a propane heater would be convenient.

Nice wood stove Duck Doctor.

Get yourself some tin to put behind it to help radiate the heat away from the wall and back to the middle of the shack.

Good luck,

Something about wood makes it feel warmer.  It takes alot of wood to burn as long as a 20-30lb bottle of propane. Propane is easier and cleaner. I say propane for those reasons. Wood does have a cool factor though. :-\

I use wood, why waste you money on gas. I figure Its around $10 every time I go out fishing if I use propane. money adds up fast.  :o :o

At are camp in VT we have a wood stove to heat it. The wood  is easier to get and it's renewable and cheaper.

for me a 100lb tank last all season and then some keeping that in mind I can heat the shack cook my food  and have lights and I feel safe with it instantanious heat   in 10 min your gonna have to have the door opened   lol  plus for me it is one haul of a tank out vs hauling all the wood and keeping up with it  plus you loose valuable space with a wood stove IF and Ill repeat IF you install it properly and I havent seen any that truely are installed IAW NFPA standards   eather way anybody goes is def a personal preferance   but if you are going to heat please have a working (batteries installed) smoke detector and a carbon monoxide detectors   Mine also includes a flammable gas detector too

Hazzy:

I just refreshed my memory with NFPA 211 and I am sad to inform you that this stove won't be installed per NFPA 211. I can get the 18" from the wall requirement but the stove will extend too far into the free space. I do plan on having it about a foot off the wall though and place shielding metal underneath and behind the stove.
