washing fish trap scout?
« on: Jan 19, 2009, 06:26 PM »
I was just wondering if anyone knew if you could remove the tent and wash it in a washer. I am going to purchase one used that smells like cat and was wondering if I can take it off and wash it.

Just smoke a cigar in it and it'll take the cat smell away :P

My fish traps both smell like gasoline because I store them in my dads airplane hanger during the summer, after the first few outings, the nauseating smell goes away

Don't see why you couldn't wash it. Gentle setting Then spay it down with camp dry to keep it water resistant.

Camp dry smells horrible, defeats purpose of washing it

Assemble it like you would be using it, and use a powerwasher on a low setting...preferably with a soap additive and then do a rinse run. I know a guy that had to do that when he wound up with coon pi$$ in his. Worked well.

Thanks for the help I emailed clam corp. and they told me I can take it off and wash it in a commercial washer. They said to use sports wash and then leave it to air dry. I think I'll try that because it is way to cold to get the pressure washer out and wash the shanty.

Dryer sheets. I have seen that is supposed to keep rodents and moths out too. I think washing would be the best though.

garden hose with simple green doesn't work very good.  I will try the sports wash come ice off.  Until then it will stay frozen in the back of my truck for the winter.  Not sure if I will be able to get the fish smell out of it though  ;D

If all else fails take it to the local car wash. Set it up and do the power wash with soap, good rinse and maybe even a wax to help make it a little more water resistant.

The sport wash took the strong cat smell out so I'm sure it will take out the fish smell
