Scott wheres the rod for the brookies. That place looks awesome in the pics. The little girl is priceless. She's either waiting for daddy to fill the trap or fall in.

I'd bet with the low water and that cold snap we had they moved to deeper holes. Always frustrating when you don't get them where you have in the past...

Nice to see the little ones involved Scott. I too have taken my girl (now 7) on shiner trapping and scouting missions. I'm hoping to get her more involved in the fishing this season. As far as trapping 2 of my go to spots have produced poorly or not at all but the 3rd has been the goldmine for me. Lots of bait in not a lot of time. ;D

All the places I get shiners from are small ponds. I've had poor luck in streams, usually just a few small dace in the streams I've tried.

Otzi, what are you using for bait?

I have tried bagels and cat food with limited success

I use bread. Any kind that is left over in the house. If I have nothing else I'll use saltines or oatmeal in a little mesh bag. I've also been trying to get some bigger bait with rod and reel. I've used dog food before and just got crawfish but I know a lot of guys use it.

this spot is a private irragation pond that i stocked with pike shinners 4 or 5 yrs ago and they bred and its full of bait now.  the tank is filled for the ice fishing season.
