Just wanted to say hi and good luck to everyone,
I'm looking to get back in to the sport. Went to school in ME where we were spoiled with landlocked salmon and monster lake trout.
haven't ice fished in 10 yrs + , sold my gear, looking to get back in to it, hope its like riding a bike and I'll remember what to do.
going to pick up some tipups and a hand auger. any advice ( pm if you prefer not to "spot burn" - although i'm not looking for specifics )
for SE mass? I'm in Attleboro. also, not going to pick one up this year but wondering how vexilars and sonar work? it gives the depth and then you fish right off the bottom or at the point in the water column where fish are holding? they look very different than the fish finders i've seen for open water. are they commonly used? we used to just set out multiple tip ups and take note of the depths/locations that produced.
thanks,
be safe,
g

Welcome back. Still the same old ice fishing. I'm in Norton and have plenty of gear if you'd like to meet up sometime.

its like sex, you may suck at first, but after a little practice, you think your good, while everyone else still thinks you suck.  :P

nice paqman, that explains it pretty well.
FNE, I'm game to tag along with somebody who knows what the heck they're doing, I'll check back after the holidays - I'm straight out with work for the next couple weeks, hope this cold weather coming in locks things up.

another question - do a lot of people jig ? i've only used tip ups, never the small ice poles -  how popular ( or productive ) is jigging?
thanks
g

Welcome. You will find all the info you need here. Have a great season and be safe.
If fishing was work I'd never be sick!
