Dead bait.  Steel leaders. Circle hooks.  Let them run once, pause, and on the second run set the hook

Be patient....any of the coves off of RT.20 offer a shot at pike.

Good Luck!

After all this rain, I'd be real careful on ANY river.

15 years ago i use to live at those coves.
Keep away from the main river body
which includes by the boat ramps, you must go to the coves...
The coves are first place in the area to freeze and last to thaw..
so i doubt there is any problem with thin ice. but obviously check as you go..
usually we would fish xx large shiners for pike and have a couple mediums out for largemouths
large pike were far and few between but when a big one would bite, they were big...  i've seen
some very large pike taken here , but that was long ago i don't think they continue to stock them there
not sure though..also at first ice was best as the season went on the bite got slow
also the local bait shop "bait bucket " is out of business
keep us informed

I heard rumor of a 34 pounder coming out of the charles through the ice in a recent year. Is the charles river basin still solid? where can I find a map for it?
