Got out on the ice this morning on a pond just over the Mass border from CT. Got set up at about 8:30 and fished until about 1:30.
5" of safe ice. The action on the jigging rods was very good with Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, Rainbow Trout and Largemouth Bass being caught in 8' to 12' of water. The crappie we caught came from 30-32' of water. I used a small diamond eye jig tipped with a wax worm. Neal used a small tear drop jig, also tipped with a wax worm. Final tallies were:
60 Bluegill/Sunfish
5 Rainbow Trout
4 Crappie
1 12" Largemouth Bass
We kept half the panfish to make a chowder, plus 3 trout. All in all, a very good morning on the ice with about 70 fish total.
