Best line for jigging for panfish ?
« on: Dec 14, 2007, 08:12 AM »
I've been using Trilene ice 2or 3 lb test for last 4 or 5 year,it's seems to work well. Before that a Andeas rep gave me a 1000yd spool of 2lb ,that was the best 2lb I've ever had.I kept it in a dark, dry place and used it for several years.Whats your favorite line?

1# with the proper rod, or 3/4# sewing thread if the bite is real tough!!!

I was a 2lb and 4lb Trilene ice guy but I'm trying the Fireline Crystal 2lb this year.  Supposed to be as thin as 1/2lb test.  Pretty thin stuff and seems stronger than the 2lb I had been using.

For me Trilene Ice 2 lb. is working. I won't tamper with it!

I use 2lb and 3lb Berkley Micro Ice and 2lb. P-Line Fluroclear. I hooked a 17" largemouth last year on my 18" sight rod with 2lb test on it, I don't go smaller than 2lb because you never know when you'll hook a larger fish.

I landed two large mouths last year that many of you seen pix of, using 1# test. Both fish were in the 5# range, 20-22"s. Also, landed three Pike over 25" upto 29 on 1# last year. With the correct rod teamed up with the line no need to worry ;)

2 pound florocarbon.(vanish for me) have never seen a bite that was tough enough for anything smaller. common to have 20 guys packed in 20 sq yds day after day. so these fish have "seen it all". floro wins over smaller dia every time! just my observation.

A-Bomb,is that florocarbon hard to keep on the reel,by that I does it have a memory, my buddy used it last year and had fits with it( vanish) it just flew off his reel.He told me to stick with Trilene ice.I've really have had no trouble with Trilene ice, landed some big fish 23 in. smallmouth on 3lb.

no problems here, but indiana is not a real sub zero state by any means. Have heard of issues w/ temps below 15 deg F. also 4 gets a little unmanageable with light jigs and flies.
I keep my reels  "almost full" and have no probs. I use a ML rod and pretty much have at 'em. Alot of guys ask if i'm using 4 or 6 and freak when i say 2#.

1# test line specimen

1# test line specimen

Note the milk crate in this pix to get an idea how big this hawg is. 1# test line again

All these and the Pike I land on this line came in on a 24" HT IceBlue UL rod. You must have a flimsy rod and a smooth drag. The volume of bites, size of fish and speed at which you attain your limits if that is what you are after, will all improve with proper use of 1# test. It is not for everyone, but I am sold.

i use 2 pound trilene sensation.  seems pretty good with jigging and minimal stretch.  i used to use the trilene cold weather, but a friend of mine got me onto the sensation line.
when fisherman fish alone, do they really catch fish??
