Anyone use rod socks?
« on: Nov 07, 2019, 07:18 PM »
Wondering if this would help with use in conjunction with a rod tube case for less tangles primarily on tickle stick rods? Fragile tips.

they are on every rod i use. they keep tangles away and i hook the jig into the bottom of the handle. i use the bungee cord to help keep the handle from spinning and lighten the drag in case it does spin to help keep the tip from being pulled down.

I built a rod compartment into my flip over, just some 1x8, and have sleeves on all my rods. Have a couple of tickle sticks and have had no issues at all, different color sleeves tell me quickly which rods to grab out.

Was thinking about this earlier in the fall. Looked didn’t find rod socks for ice rods and never thought about it again.

Good way to snap a rod tip. Buy a rod box or save until u can afford one. No nice rod should spend its time in a bucket with a sock. Nope nope nope

I used to just stick my rods in a bucket.
Then I found the "Stick Jacket" at my local Sportsman's Warehouse.
The problem I had was my jigs would come loose hooking themselves in the Stick Jacket becoming a pain to get out.
Then after losing a few out the back of my truck while traveling down the highway I decided to purchase a good quality rod case and haven't looked back.
No more rod socks for me!

Tried them after the third or forth time cutting a jig free I decided not to use them. carry my rods in a nice bag. Have to this date not had any broken. Also if I didn't have to untangle something I just wouldn't feel right! ;D Keep it safe! JDL

They work great if your hook doesn't get tangled in them, then they are a huge pain. I've always tried to be mindful of the hooks when putting the rod in the sock but it never failed to find a way to get tangled up.

My go to now is golf bag tubes. They are only a $1 a piece and you can cut them to any length. I cut a slot in them so that the reel slides into the end of the tube a little more. Works great!

I’ve covered everything y’all are talking about. I just want to use em to keep the eyelets from catching each other in the bag/tubes

I use the socks inside of my rod tube case.  Works well for not catching all the rod eyelets when trying to pull out just one rod.
Any day on the ice with little to no wind, is a darn good day.

Same issues I had. I received a couple as gifts,I originally liked them until I had a few jigs get snagged in them. Can be a real pain! Tossed them and bought a hard case.

I use them all the time in my rud bags without holders. When I dont, my rods seems to go into orgy-mode as soon as I close the bag. it saves a lot of time when getting the rods back out.

I use them to keep the jigs from snagging stuff while intransit.  I also use them to cover the jigs when the rods are inside my rod cases.

If you're just looking to keep hooks from snagging on stuff, these lure covers work much better than rod socks. There are a few different brands out there, these just happen to be the ones I found a pic of quick for reference.

I use foam pipe covers on each rod. But I never liked storing my rods vertically in my flipover. When I flip the cover over, it would snag my rods. This year I bought a Clam netting and plan to try storing my rods in my flipover in the net horizontally.  Will still use the foam pipe covers.  We'll see.

I use the clear plastic sleeves by clam, you need to be careful putting them in, but one in they allow you to throw a bunch of stuff in the case with no tangles

Use thin wall pvc pipe for rod tubes. I don't remove lures, leave slack in the line when placing rods in the tubes. The rubber band at the top of the cut out prevents the reel stem and line from rubbing against the pvc.
