Have not fished it this year but have for many years prior. Always caught a lot of nice rainbows down at the damn.
Set up in real deep water and fished 12 feet down with maggots. Ice conditions were usually pretty tough with
lots of snow on top of lots of slush on top of ice. Make sure your boots don't leak. Can be excellent trout fishing.

Tried to go but an avalanche had blocked the road. Went back toward Quake Lake but the snow was so deep and hard to get on. Ended up eating lunch in Ennis. Later season Hegben is that way. Often the snow is waist deep. Fishing by the dam allows access but it takes a couple guys to bust down the hill and onto the lake. Shoveling out an area helps but can be a lot of work. Most lakes have too much snow on them. Snowmobiles may be a better way to go on those lakes. Even wheelers with chains can be tough.

Late season anywhere can be tough but Hebgen has its own set of troubles. Another spot to try is just up the road from
the dam is the Kirkwood marina. Nice folks and you can walk out from there parking lot. Have not done as well there
catching fish however the access is much easier then the dam.

Stayed at kirkwood friday and Saturday night and fished out from Yellowstone holiday. Landed 9 fish total, 8 rainbows ranging from 16 to 20.5 inches and 1 utah chub that was 14 inches. All fish for me came on a fly i designed to imitate a midge larva bit still be heavy enough to ice fish with. Works great on panfish also. Slush was bad on saturday with it being a little warmer. Snowshoes made a huge difference. Always love fishing hebgan.
safe ice, tight lines and god bless!

Excellent, glad you got into the fish, and supported the Kirkwood folks. They have been good to us over the years. Even
plowed out a spot a couple times for us to camp at their place. Never even charged us to stay.
