tip ups vs. tilts

i have and always will call tip ups - tip ups.
many people especially in rhode island call them 'tilts'
has anyone else heard of this before

Tip-up's? Tilt's? Must be a southern NewEngland accent. TRAPS! up north.

In NY we have tip ups and tip downs....tip downs mainly for perch, crappie etc...

tip ups are the sticks with the flags on them. it sounds like a "tilt" is a tip down. since a tip down tilts down whena fish hits. im not sure if a tilt is a tip down but that is my opinion.
