I get mine from here, never any dead ones and they stay alive a long time in the fridge. I also dump them in the big bait pucks half full of saw shavings, not dust.

Fridge is too cold for waxies! Maggots are happy in the fridge, but waxies turn black and get skinny. You gotta find the 58-60 degree sweet spot in the basement or entry way. That is one of the many reasons I got away from wax worms and started buying colored maggots.

Depending on the amount you are buying, shipping might be a killer on these deals.
I personally buy them at petland, generally between 5-10 cents a piece and usually get a few free. Although i keep spare in the fridge and most dont turn black, not buying alot at once takes the headache out.

How do you store waxworms long term if you are buying them in bulk?

$0.10 a worm? That is outrageous! I buy 500 from jada for $17.50 and they have free shipping. That is less than $0.04 each.

For waxworms, a dark place with a constant temp of 45-60 degrees and about 50% humidity. Change the bedding if it starts to get moist (worm pee).

For maggots (spikes), fridge at 38 degrees in a ziplock bag. Change the dust and add pine sawdust when needed. Open the bag every few days and let them have some fresh air, but dont let them warm up. If you smell ammonia or the bedding is wet, change it ASAP! I've held spikes for over 6 months in the fridge. Bought them in Jan and was using them July. Make sure you use a freezer bag, or double bag them... they can eat right through a bag and your wife wont like it.
