I think the first thing to do is look and see if the bottom is really scratched/gouged. If so, sand it with some fine sandpaper to smooth things out. After that, I'd try a liquid car wax, or maybe a liquid floor wax. Liquid floor wax is very hard.

"gulf wax" all purpose kitchen-household wax used in canning. find it near canning supplies, ball jars etc. Works well, waxed up last night, sledding today was smooth. $4.00 for a box, should last a life time.

I have also gone to silicone, Armor All to be exact. Waxes come off half way across the lake. Armor All lasts for several trips and works ten times better.

Get some good paste wax. Johnsons or Butchers Paste floor or bowling alley wax is great stuff. Makes sleds and tobbogans slide fast. Also a good finnish on guns and stocks in snowy and rainy weather. Home Depot has it and a tin will last for years.

I recommend getting the hyfax runners.  I think wax would just make it slide across the lake with the wind that much faster.   I always anchor mine though.

Rubbing that hard wax on the bottom leaves a surprisingly durable coating.  Only have to do it once a year.

Actually I do drag my gear across some concrete boat ramps before I reach the ice and since the Armor All embeds into the plastic it really is better in this situation too.
