Bright blue ice shard...what is it?!
« on: Jan 17, 2022, 09:20 AM »
I was fishing on Clear Lake near Redwood, NY over the weekend where it was about -10 with bright and sunny skies.  Out of one of my holes a bright blue shard of ice came out when I was drilling, and I assumed it was a bit of paint off of my auger(and maybe it did), but on closer inspection it was just clear ice...that was blue.  Anybody have any ideas as to what might be causing this?

True, but the ice is not something I have seen or can explain...in terms of blue snow the storm we had last night produced lots of opportunity to see what happens when the snow absorbs the red and yellow light.

My BIL was an environmental scientist working on an old superfund site, and when they would find that bright blue "Cyan" dirt, it was full of cyanide, and had to be placed in barrels and stored forever. Might not go eating blue snow either.  :-\

Don't planes drop chunks of blue toilet ice?

Is there a campground nearby with port-a-potties that could have leaked/leached some blue "residue" into the water?

Ha - maybe the boys over at ft drum were dropping goodies out of the aircraft.  There is pretty much nothing around up there.
