Relube Beaver Dams
« on: Jan 17, 2013, 11:55 AM »
I have seen videos on how to relive the Beaver Dam tip ups. No where am I finding what kind of solder to use to affix the spool back in place. Do you use solder for plumbing? Also how do they get the bottom to look so nice from the factory? The tip ups I have seen redone have a large amount of solder compared to that of the factory.

To clean them up take a glove and gently wipe off the excess hot solder once your finshed.

I used Oatly Safe Flo plumbers solder. Worked great. The pool on the bottom will form as the solder cools. It was a very easy process.

I also use plumbers solder and only apply enough to make the smallest pool as possible just as they come from the factory. One other note on the subject is to make sure you clean the spool so the solder will flow evenly. After soldering the spool should be cleaned and painted with a couple of light coats of rust inhibitor paint and they will look good as new.
