What is that one thing you can't live with out since you bought or made it? For me it would have to be my old trusty homemade jig pole. Filled the old frying pan many times over. Wondering what everyone else's prized item is?

I would have to say the jiffy auger.   Without it ice fishing would be a pain in the later months.

My flasher.  I can honestly say that if I forgot my flasher on the way to the lake, I would turn around and go home to get it.

Auger, flasher, heater and custom rods would be hard to give up but my Smitty gets everything out there. I'm going Smitty Sled

Mine would have to be rod holders and auger handle. Rod holders are just fantastic and give you reassurance that your combo doesn't go down the hole and its fun to see them pointing at the hole when a fish strikes. Auger handle is an offset one that makes drilling so much easier. There a combination of bought made items.  ;D

The best Ice Fishing "thing" didn't cost me anything, Ice Shanty! The sharing of ideas, information and camaraderie is priceless! But there are three items I have bought that have changed everything about Ice Fishing for me; a Flasher(Marcum VX-1), Nils 6"auger, and portable shelter(Clam Fish Trap Pro). Also throw in a Floatation Suit(Arctic Armor), it has given me peace of mind.

The most expensive item is buying for this addiction!  :woot:

For me, I think it's going to be these rod lockers I built this year.  They're gonna protect my rods a lot more than the bags I was using.

When I started ice fishing it was with a jigging pole with no reel, just two pins to wind the line on.  I used a hand "spoon auger" to drill a hole. Gathered my bait in the fields (goldenrod stems containing a worm). Sat on an exposed bucket  no matter what the weather.

So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I'd say pretty much EVERYTHING I use now for ice fishing.  If I had to pick one item it would be the auger.  Any sharp auger is better than the old spoon augers.
take care,
Dave  :>)
