LET'S THOSE WALLEYE TIP-UP'S!!
« on: Jan 17, 2009, 06:28 PM »
Here's my collection! Here on Champlain we can have out 15, so it gives me an excuse to buy a few extras!  ;D
Hopefully people have some more interesting setups that I do!

So there are...
~ 6 polar tip-ups
~ 9 Heritage tip-ups
~ 15 HT fisherman tip-ups

The south end of the lake has been depleted of walleye for a while, but they are down there. They now stalk the Poultny river with walleye fry on a regular basis. Its only gonna get better in the future.

I use 100 yards of braided mason line, with 4 feet of 10 lb test leader. I also like to first tie on 100 yards of 12 lb test mono line on the spool first (because it doest use up spool space), then i tie it to the mason line, and then spool that on. This is just in case they spool me of all the braided line, then i have backup. Once in a great while you have a fish, but the flag wont go off, and then you get spooled. A walleye will rarely go more than 100 yards when they know their hooked, but you will get ones that GO..& GO!! especially the 8+ lb fish.

Where did you score the reflective tape?  I saw some at Lowes but it was red and not cheap.  Nice bunch of traps there.

Walmart, automotive section,or try hobby store, stuff at wally world is cheap, under $2. Can use trail tacks also and poke thru flag bend over the back.

I only use Beaverdams, bulletproof,no plastic and smooth, had way too many failures on polars and other cheaper boards.

Very nice tippys fishstalker. I use about 6 feet of 20lb mono leader, makes me feel a little more comfortable if i have a pike on.

Ben don't feel bad about having extra tip-ups. I have 65 Heritage and one Polar (caught my 10.75lbs walleye on it so I haven't gotten rid of it) and can never get enough people out to use them all. I like use red tape on my flags and white on the tip-up that way then I shine the spotlight on them if the red is above the white then I have a flag up. If the red is below the white no flag.

I found both @ my local Ace Hardware it comes on maybe a 4' roll and is about 1/2" wide. I have never used them, but you can try on-line @ http://streetglo.net/reflective.tape/ it look like good tape. Made for pin stripping so it should stick well.
