Walleye on Tip-ups
« on: Jan 31, 2009, 05:42 PM »
I am looking for the best way to catch walleye on tip-ups.  My way right now is having Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon, 1 ft long 8#, and then having a swivel between braid and fluorocarbon and then having an octopus hooked tipped with a live blue minnow.  Any other ways or tips for tip-ups for catching Walleye?

Try a treble hook with two minnows hooked through the tail opposing each other - lots of action as they swim against each other.  Keep your baits off the bottom so the walleyes can see it.

Nope i find success basicly how you do it. I tie a swivel between my tip up line and leader. But i use monofilament, 20lb, 5 or 6 feet. I then knot my treble hook directly to the mono leader. I use #2's doesnt seem to bother the fish much and i hardly ever lose a fish. Bleed red seems to work good. Split shot 6-8 inches above treble.

I would switch to a 5-6' leader and try a red hook if your not already using one.

when jigging, i use two teardrops (one is a foot higher than the bottom) and both are tipped with minnows. Catch lots of calico that way too.
