Title: Monster Walleye
Post by: thor94 on Feb 11, 2017, 08:25 PM
Fun day fishing with the family.   Check out my cousin Eric's walleye, 28".  Biggest I've seen caught.  My daughter caught a 26" as well..

His location says "dead sea" so I'm thinking that's the clue.

Outstanding day fishing Thor.

The funny/sad part is, my daughter's 26" walleye was the biggest I've seen, 4 hours later the 28" was caught.  She had the family record for a few hours.   ;)    Mine was the runt at around 22 (didn't measure that one).   All released.

We caught all the walleye on tip-ups.  Had zero luck jigging.

Amazing seeing those fatties swim by the hole.  Thought they were carp at first, they were so fat.

Location wise, as Arietta pointed out, were usually on the Dead Sea.   These weren't from there, but pretty close.

Thanks for the comments

Interesting technique for holding those Walleye/Pike up for pics. Must be pretty kool gloves you got. Great fishing by all.

You know you've done well when everyone wants, exact location, bait, depth and probably in PM's even offers money for use of the exact hole in the ice!

I posted a reply to this, but deleted it. I'm better than this nonsense. Great fish, I meant no disrespect by having an opinion. I do not want GPS coordinates, but thank you for the humor.

To answer some more questions....

Bait was actually small suckers.  We were targeting Pike

We did weigh the 28", but the scale wasn't accurate.   Scale said 6.5 lbs, which seemed low.  Took that same scale home and put a 10lb weight on it, only registered 8ish lbs.  The pics don't give the girth justice, it was unbelievably fat.

No idea on the suit, thats my cuz holding the fattie, that's me holding the dink.

All in all that's a lifetime fish and to put it back to breed is great, but we all know that someone will get her on the spring and not throw her back. Great fish and thanks for all the info

Cheek meat like poor mans scallops!!! But I like my eyes in the 17"-24" range for good eating .. I caught a bunch in the river this fall all in the 24"-28" range just took nice pics and threw em back. But don't begrudge any man fishing to eat that for sure
