Has an awesome time this weekend up there cant wait to get back this weekend. We did really well with the pups. The burbot were a little slow we caught 8 total. I am not sure if we were at the right depth? any one know what depth is good? I will post some pics when I get off work

rocky shores 5-30 fow, i know it sounds like a big spread but its good to set a few rods at different depths till you can find where they are moving thru

I fished a few nights last week and like Musky, I auger a bunch of holes and fish 10-40ft. I had better success for numbers in shallow water but caught my bigger fish in deeper.  I usually run my tip ups in the shallow holes, which might influence the results. Just auger a bunch of holes and set rods to figure out depth and location. When its slow I also "ice troll", moving from hole to hole and jigging for 5 or more minutes. Good luck!

Thinking about FOOD! What do you guys typically bring? I am thinking of a BBQ. Is it worth running to town for brunch, or do you stay on the ice? Also, the wife is asking about cell service? Thanks!!!!

I have AT&T and can at least get a text out in most places on the WY side of the reservoir.  Occasionally, I can get calls too.

great phone service were we are going and food we take food eat breakfast at the trailer and then we take cans of food on the ice and cook them on the buddy all so not far from the trailer so you could even go back and make something

I have tmobile and had great service in buckboard area for text and calls, sending pics was another story. I couldnt get my phone to do it so i gave up. As for food like fishon said we cook up some breakfast/coffee at the trailer then out on the ice warm up cans on the buddy heaters. I like the dinty moore stew myself. Any thing with a pop top will work. I also like to wrap tamales in foil and warm them up also. This is the setup we use, 1 gal roller screen for the single buddies and 5 gal roller screen for the big buddies. Works like a champ and is cheap

I've been cooking on mine for years now.

Bought an aluminum mesh screen at HD for paint rolling in a bucket and fastened it on. Just keep the foil pans forward so the handle won't melt.

That's a great idea for using your Buddy heater, muskyon46.  I'll have to try it.

Welcome to the shanty taters and thanks but i cant take the credit, one of our other shanty members came up with it. Lots of different ideas on this post for cooking with a buddy, 12 pages but worth the read. I mainly just look at the pics anyways

My truck camper is sitting on the RV lot on base, and I'm not sure I can get the dang thing out. All this snow may have blown it for me. I went in there Monday afternoon and there was a foot in there, grabbed my battery and left, needed to charge it for the jacks, then we had the storm today. We are going to attempt it tomorrow, but it's no fun trying to load a truck camper with 2 foot of snow on the ground and 2 foot on the roof with a cover on it.....this could get interesting. Is there anywhere to stay up there? If so its probably all taken. Dang it.

Our friend that is taking his trailer had to dig it out of there yesterday, they said it took awhile but its out and ready to be loaded tomorrow. I wouldnt know what to say about rooms but there is a few motels in green river and i know some people that are staying at one. They reserved it last friday. I would google motels there and see what you find, unless you get your cabover out. Good luck

Post by: JBT on Jan 30, 2013, 08:36 AM
Good Morning Utah,

There are several motels in Green River with what I believe to be plenty of rooms if you chose to do that. Six motels that I can think of and then you can drive the extra 15 miles to Rock Springs and have at least double that number of motels. Wind here this morning is terrible....lol...even for us locals it is bad...50 mph tonight....good luck--JBT

You guys be safe! I am headed down in the morning and meeting my buddy in Green River. Spending the night at Lost dog I think. Save me a spot for Friday. (4 guys total) Northern Wyoming is getting heavy snow, so the start of my trip could have a little pucker factor. :o  Where is my sleeping pills? ;D

Took four hours and a torn first year cover, but I got the camper out. Lesson learned.....if your going to use your camper for the bash, do not put a cover on it haha. See you guys on Friday. I have no idea where I am going, I guess Buckboard by the searching I have done. Hopefully i can find a parking spot. I love camping at canyon rim in the summer, but you can't drop lines from way up there.

Well I've decided to go to the Bash even if nobody around here wants to with me. Don't bother me being a Lone Wolf !! Seems like I do a lot of it. I'll be fishing from a Viking Ice Shanty somewhere out there. If I get the time I'll stop by and see how you all are doing. Good Luck to all and all Two good nights!!   ;D

Hey shanty folks, not really an active poster here but I should be. I'm heading up there this year for the first time as well.  Never fished Flaming Gorge at all but looking forward to it.  I don't plan on being too aggressive with the fishing this year, taking my wife and don't want her to hate one of my few hobbies.  Good luck all.

We didn't do worth a for Burbot.  Fished near the marina and caught some lakers but let them go.  Moved down near Holmes Crossing on Saturday and couldn't stand it.  Between the radios blaring, dogs, kids and quads doing donuts on the ice, we decided to quit early.  To each their own of course, just not my cup of tea.

I had a great time and met some awesome people. Caught a few fish, and learned a lot. The ice shanty "tent city" was pretty awesome. There was a monster Mak caught, hopefully the pic will be up soon. Burbot??? There ain't no burbot left in the gorge haha. They were slow going.

Just thought I would let you guys know that you are helping the economy. Since seeing all of your fishing tricks, my wallet is about empty! ;D  Sold my QF3 and found a great deal on a 949i. I bought an HT rigger, Rapala glow box and TONS of PK lures thanks to Musky. ;)  I enjoyed learning new tricks from all of you. The only thing I will try not to add to my bag of tricks is the way you guys crash landed on the ice checking rods friday night! Also gonna get some of the glow sticks for rod tips. Any other trick I may have missed? Do tell please... Thanks guys, Joe

Im blaming the crash landings on the slick ice and inferior cleats  ;)2 thats good you was able to sell the QF3. Your going to luv that 949i, That insulation makes all the difference. I was surprised how durable that glow box is, i must have dropped mine 5 or 6 times before the battery cover finally broke  :%$#!:  Now its got some reliable duct tape on it. I hope you enjoy the rigger as i do like mine when i can use that many poles. Not really much i can say a bout the PK's except
