Yeah.  My ice season has sucked this year.  I've spent more time fishing in December than January.
Just not feeling the love . Given these temperatures,  I'll cut more firewood for the future tomorrow instead of fishing.
Pretty sure I'm canceling my usual winter ice vacation presidents week.
Instead of 20 weeks on ice in 2018-19, I'll be lucky to put 20 days on the hardwater this season

Its been a tough pill to swallow.  Went bowling with my daughter today instead of fishing.  Ill be over the deep water tomorrow.

Well the firewood cutting was more productive than my fishing lately.  3 more loads of free roadside wood.
Hopefully your putting a smackdown on those char...

Slow day in the middle (off Schroon Manor) too lol. The old man and I managed to jig up (4) over 18" and only one more off a jawjacker. All 19-26", all released.

About 8" ice everywhere we drilled.

*anyone loose some gear out of a sled? Found a broken dyna-glow heater and a bubble box on the main snowmobile trail.

Nice. Better than a skunk and releasing lake trout is better than table fare,  imo.
Had 2 friends that ventured to the dead sea of eagle point today after my zip.
Well 10 traps out , zero fish.
Good luck to all that venture out.
My rest of season will be for panfish only

Fished the north side Sunday 6am-11am. Nothing on 5 tip ups. Marked Maybe 5 fish and nothing seemed even remotely interested in chasing.

Would anyone be willing to share some tips on how to target Lakers in Schroon? I've been up there twice this year and got skunked both times. For me, it's kind of a far drive to not catch fish. Thanks

Do you have electronics? Jigging or traps? When you have time, you should start on page 1 of this thread and read the entire thing.

Not throwing in the towel but with spring like temperatures all winter it's been hard to get motivated this year

Fished north end yesterday. 1 laker jigging and a few chasers. Talked to a few guys on my way out and they got nothing.

We were out there last Saturday.  Trip started off lousy with my helix 5 battery cable crapping out.  Manny and his Showdown saved the day so we at least weren't fishing blind.  We ended up with about a dozen as a group.  The biggest one, in the 4lb range, was on a tip up, I got one on the jig stick and my other buddy essentially using panfish jigs iced about 8-10 but they were all less than 15 inches.  He even got one that had parr marks.  I'll most likely be back in the area this coming weekend but can't decide what to target.  Would really like to ice my first walleye.

We were the furthest 2 flip overs north of everyone else. Mine is in the picture looking south.
Of the traps I could see and paid attention,  1 flag, 1 fish. Not a lot of hoots and usual hollering associated with catching and the place clearing out around 2pm , I figured others were having the same struggles.
I was in 55 fow, 40 fow and 34 fow  just jigging.
When I finally realized it was dink perch chasing my laker lures I started hooking them dinks once I downsized.

and everyone else on the forum for their advice on fishing for lake trout.
I braved the cold temperatures and landed four of them today.

This fish isn't very impressive but it is the first Lake trout I have ever caught:

If you caught on a tip up, don’t try to save the hook, cut the line.  If jigged, handle with care getting hook out.  This fish most likely will die, as it doesn’t appear to be. 18 inches.  Just some friendly advice.

I tried to get them all back in the water as soon as possible with minimum handling. I will try harder next time though. Thank you for your advice.

How was the snow on the lake last weekend?

There was a couple inches of snow (2-3" would be my guess) then a layer of slush under that. The slush froze pretty quick when exposed to the air.

Great outing for the first time. Schroon has been weird this season, slower than normal.

this season has sure been slow compared to years in the past and the weather has been great
so i figured lemme try fishing in crapty conditions and they were on the feed all am
the two of us landed 20plus lakers all on the jig sunday from 14-24inches in half a day
very aggressive bites
maybe i should just fish in lousy weather
ill be back again this weekend to cash in on schroon gold
ill probably hit LG friday b4 the crowds and hit schroon sat-monday
good luck
