Last year Nov was brutally cold. Remember Thanksgiving last year had highs in the single numbers. Then by mid Dec it warmed up and stayed warm for a few weeks, if my memory is correct.

Hi Tony, you are correct. Was warm the day I was in the narrows, then it became unsafe a couple days after.

The north end from the north side of the island to the marina froze over this morning.  I don't know if it survived the day, but I suspect it won't survive the next 2 days.

As of this morning, don't know if it survives the frontal passage on Wed.  Pic courtesy of Schroon Lake Fb Page.

Well the ice held up and Schroon is now frozen from the North end to the south side of the Narrows. Just need to be putting on inches.

Thanks for the updates.
I'd be leaving my ATV home for a while yet but to each their own insurance risks.Shorelines should only increase now so tearing them up isn't an issue like late ice

Glad to see this as I have a trip with some buddies planned for Jan 18-20 for some Schroon Lakers. Hoping to get up there right after New Years and try to get into them.

I guess it's on boys, group out by island and another group in the Narrows.

There is still a big patch of open water south of the narrows its at least a 1/2mi long and not sure how wide. Ice south of the narrows did not look ready yet

I spoke with the former owner of Davis motel today. He was skeptical of some of the ice reports he had been hearing, so he went out and drilled a bunch of holes from the launch in Schroon Lake to the Island. The least he hit was 5 1/2" by the launch, the rest were 6-7"!  The black area by the Island was 6".  I had time this morning and drove around the lake.  South basin is froze over and there were a couple guys off Eagle Point.  The rest down there looks pretty sketchy,  with lots of wet cracks, and a couple open areas south of the Narrows and above Sucker Brook Bay. Still, thats pretty good as I can not remember the south basin freezing over before Christmas.

SchrnLker- thanks for the report. Was debating on checking out the north end this morning but decided not to thinking there would only be 3-4 inches max out there. Surprised there is that much ice already and also surprised the south end has locked up this early. Hopefully we get back to single digit nights to keep building.

I’m from south of schroon but you should be fine temps haven’t gone above freezing not many ppl will talk early on get up there and catch em up make the reports don’t chase em if not safe enough for you look into the other smaller shallower panfish lakes in the area you’ll be rewarded with ice

I've been away for Christmas so I haven't had eyes on the lake for a couple days. I'm sure it''s fine since a buddy who lives right in town wanted me to go fishing Sat on Schroon and he has lived on the lake his whole life.
