I report Lakers...and apparently was hit by a 67mph gust there yesterday.  The otter prevailed....with help.

Mazda man great to meet you glad to see you survived the gust. Made me laugh when at 12pm only you and I remained on the ice!

My gear just got re organized so I'm ready.

A schroon fishing question was asked,  throttle gave some good advice 😁

I'm a rookie that is cool with smiles even if its only 1 fish from another.
No matter where or what species,  jigging,
They usually hit within the first few minutes,  if not then it's a cat and mouse game on presentation.  Moving even 20 feet can make a big difference,  change lures often,  plastics,  real or hardware.
When all else fails,  call it defeat and move.
I tend also to find a contour. In reverse,  I start deeper but not much more than 60-70 fow . Typically,  smelt will be in the 40-30 foot range.  You hit fish quick or you then move up the contour as like throttle said, the push them into the bay .
We've caught a 40 " pike and 23" laker on the same hole in 20 fow.
Last weekend,  a laker was caught in 8fow on a trap.
In all I prefer 45 -35 fow to play jiggy with if you find them ( lake trout) .
Much easier to get them to bite with less water to reject.
PS,
Schroon is very stained water.
Copper is a good color and out of the river current seems to be working as well

Enjoy and good luck

Hitting the narrows for the first time on Saturday morning. Keep the picks coming, gives me motivation to not go after walleye this weekend instead.

Thanks guys.  Salmon was alot of fun and a bit of a surprise.  Hit one of my laker setups.  Hungry bugger.  Same hole next day got the trout.  Fish are funny.  Let's see more fish pics!

Check back in a few weeks...you should be ok but the ice thickness will likely be different from what it is today.

Let's hope Ed.  You fishing Saturday?  From what I understand we may play a fun game of who can get there the earliest. Mazda man is tough to beat.

Should be enough ice for walking. Guys have been going up for the past 2 weeks. Reports of 8-9’on the north end. I’m going up this weekend with the atv !  Keep and eye out for the video.

You've been on that north end ice or are you giving out second hand info? There was considerable water on the ice Tuesday am and holes and ridges had water pouring in and were becoming wider.  I'd recommend anyone take Hot Tuna's earlier advice and walk based on my observations Tuesday (walked about 4 miles of ice)

Looks like everything froze up nice last night. I’m sure everyone will be save and drill test holes / spud for themselves.looks like atv ice from the reposts I got .  If not it will stay on the trailer. No big deal.

Last year I did 4 miles one way on LG....never again.  For what it's worth Pat I only herded one on Tuesday.

full I'm just wondering how you deide the ice is good for the 4 wheeler and I'm not joking  you can't spud riding and to stop and drill test holes is after fact a lot can happen in 5 foot of ice ...not being a 4 wheeler guy I honestly do wonder... any one that walks and uses a spud for any length of time has been on 8 inches of ice and been walking and the spud went threw  how do you know it's good ice?

My group will be later to the party.  I don't go on early ice until after sun up.
There are sketchy spots and I'm sure parking will be tight.
Just do everyone a favor,  the ice was and I'm sure still easy walking.
Leave the big toys home for now.
Be safe and have a good time.
