Can anyone recommend a place to stay close to Schroon Lake? Looking to take a trip up there in March. Thank you for your help.

Lee's corner motel in pottersville.    There's also Panther Mountain Inn in Chestertown.  I THINK Word of Life has a hotel on the North end.

Went out today by the narrows...was the only one  out there was a surreal feeling... slush wasn't bad but man pulling my sled in and out was easily an hr and a serious work out....bring an atv or snowmobile...easily 8" on top of lake..wind was howling but still managed to jig up 3 lakers from 15-18" and a 20" on a tip up.

Was planning on bringing the snowmobile...went out to the garage and one of the trailer tires is flat and off the bead. No idea what happened. So I'll be hoofing it, smitty sled pulls easy in the snow. Wind and weather looks good for the next couple days. Thanks for the heads up!

Truth be told, I've not read all 49 pages of this thread. Got a bunch more to read.

If one were to target northerns this weekend in Schroon Lake on foot, any advice where to access & fish given the ice and snow? Haven't fished Schroon in 20+ years.

Fished yesterday afternoon, one small laker and a bunch of chasers, no flags on the salmon traps. About 8" of snow but there's some snowmobile tracks. Back at it today!

Fished Schroon today and what a gorgeous day it was.  Temp was 50 degrees with light winds and good Laker action the entire day (although walking was a PITA).  Managed to land my best Lake Trout yet, which was definitely the icing on the cake!

Thx for the help.

You might better check back few days before the Derby. 50's yesterday and today, single numbers Monday night, then mild again Wed - Fri.  No way to predict 2 weeks out in these conditions.

Was wondering if anyone had a report on the conditions this weekend. A few buddies and I had planned on going up for the whole weekend. I know this week looks really warm. Just trying to see if there is still enough ice to last through the week.

The original plan was to bring up sleds or quads (depending on the snow) and spend a day at Schroon and/or Paradox. Hopefully mother nature doesn't screw us up too much lol. We already have a cabin booked.

Thanks in advance.
Rob

We were on at Adirondack a little south of the inlet on Friday, snow was 6-15 inches where it had drifted. Ice was about 12 inches thick.  I expect a good bit of snow will be melting this week but I would think ice should be good for this weekend.  I would be careful around any inlets with increased flow from melt.

I was south of Eagle and saw the same, but less snow.  Most I saw was a foot or so.

As of late this morning most of the snow has melted off. Creepers were a must and there was a hard crust on top of the ice that was starting to melt when I left around noon. Judging by the forecast I expect it's going to be very sloppy this coming weekend.

Taking another shot, South end. No flags zero action on the sonar so far. A warm thanks to whoever fished yesterday, it was great chipping an inch of ice off old holes. Measuring 10", air bubbles through the top 7", with a couple inches of frozen slush. It's all glare ice, definitely, need spikes.

For anyone wanting a good safe spot to fish the next few days Eagle Lake towards Ti would be a good choice. 20-24" ice on the small side.  Slow yesterday but my buddy did manage a big Largemouth Bass about 6-7 lbs.  Schroon also remains safe, just be aware of inlets as things warm up.

Someone actually say creepers are a must? Crazy seeing as I was trudging through 10" of powder about 4 days ago.

Yeah it's a skating rink out here. Not a single flag or mark on the sonar so far this is ridiculous.

Such a awesome lake.

Anyone ever get any big northerns there? Or trout?
