they were biting a spoon and a jig with plastic.  the fish were spitting up some really small smelt, like 1 inch, which obviously are a great addition to any spoon or jig.

I'm making the 2+ hour ride up again. Read all 47 pages here, some archived pages, the entire report section and took notes on all of it. Made a bunch of changes in equipment and planned tactics. Damn, I'm ready for my 1st Schroon laker. Hopefully pics will follow.

Thanks Guys. I've only been to Schroon 3 times but I'm already loving the area. It's beautiful and has a great "feel" to it. A growler of Paragon Beaver Bite will keep me company as well.

Fishing is about more than fish on the ice...we both understand that, lol.

Hey guys,

Ice fishing and schroon newbie, just wondering how much ice is on the water these days and which section of the lake might be good for getting bit. I'm certainly not concerned about catching the big girls, just want some tension on my line. Looking to head up Sunday with a friend who's equally as excited and unknowledgable as I am.

Over a foot of ice where I'm sitting.   I just lost something nice on my tip up.   No idea what it was.  I'm in 20fow over a rock pile between the basin just south of Eagle and W OL.    Never seen anybody fish here before.   Trying a new spot.

I saw a guy walking across the ice with his dog Friday going North.  I wouldn't take a vehicle off it.

South launch in Horicon is only safe in the bay to the north.  Rest was open water last week.  That is the area where a guy died last year.

All on the Jig
Once again the tip ups were out for show and no go !!!!
Zero wind today made for a very comfy day on the ice

Thanks to everyone here who offered up advice to me or at any point posted a little tidbit on these 47 pages. Did 8 lakers today, my 1st ice lakers ever. What beautiful fish Schroon has.

Biggest was 28". Couldn't be happier.

The Beaver Bite was fantastic. It's great how you can get that and hunts both from Crossroads. I had to make the 2 hour ride home, so only some got drank, but it'll get finished today.

I don't mind at all. I caught most on hunts, one jigging with a swedish pimple. Good luck.
Have you ever been to Schroon? If not I STRONGLY suggest reading this entire thread. A wealth of info is in here.

Yes I went last Sunday by the narrows caught a nice 24 incher on a tip up and had a bunch on the flasher interested but no takers. Was an amazing time and I'm hooked...just trying to figure out what lure they may prefer..I tried several different jigs, tubes, and rattle baits.. Thanks for the info
