I live 15 minutes from there......be prepared for a slow day.  You can get perch about anywhere but alot of dinks.  Much more productive water around the area]

A number of dangerous pressure ridges with open water down south basin, one off Eagle Point, one just north of Adirondack, others as well that I saw driving on East Shore Drive, all made more dangerous by last nights 3-4" snow because now they're invisible until they slush up.

Was out there two days ago.  Plenty of ice.  ATVs running all over that end of lake.  Caught a couple of small lakers but  had to leave early.

I live in southern NY I'm thinking about taking a road trip up that way. Any advice for a newcomer? Good perch lake, safe ice, etc.

As of last weekend, it was glare ice. Bring your cleats for sure. Of course, I live 2 hours away so it may have changed, I wouldn't know.

On the north end right now there's snow/slush on top of the ice not to bad to deal with.  There's 11 inches of ice under that.

Best part of any trip up near Schroon is stopping and filling up a growler or two of Beaverbite IPA at the Paradox brewery

I'm embarrassed to say that never dawned on me!

Last year was my first on Schroon and I went for the derby, ended up winning a free growler as a door prize and stopped in for a tasting and a free fill up of my choice. Best tournament experience I have had so far. ;D

Slow for anyone else today? we got 1 between us, and fish were locked to the bottom after 11am.  We stopped at paradox brewery after, wanna try their Southern Hemisphere IPA but they were out (guess it sells out regularly). 7 inches everywhere we drilled slush on top.

I fished south of the island on the north end and only got 3. Cut a lot of holes and many had a fish or two that would look, maybe bump the jig, and then disappear. It took much coaxing to get them to chase.
