Got out Tuesday out of Adirondack with Fishyfishes and found a good 4.5 to 5.5 inches of nice clear ice.  He got a steady pick of trout that day while I refused to downsize bait and had only lookers for most of the day.  Did manage one at the end of the day with Fishy's lure selection help (downsize!).  Glad to provide the pastries, think my wife gets sick of hearing how much spot tail shiners like them in bait traps!

Next day went out of Adirondack again figuring since there was a little snow overnight, I'd like to know what ice looked like the day before, and it was new black ice.  The morning was good - great with 5 fish and one lost at the hole.  Around 1 I walked over to the only other party out there and they we doing well on the lakers with flags.  Unfortunately, when i returned to jigging, it was a different story.  next 3 + hours to dark I barely marked a fish despite moving and trying other baits.

Great trip and nice meeting/fishing with some people from here when I expected two days solo.

I posted a video of one catch here...

Fishy i can throw that video up of your catch too if you want, let me know.

Big Pond is part of the Hoffman Notch Wilderness. No bait fish allowed on any of the ponds within that wilderness area.

so just because its part of the wilderness, no bait? crazy to me. especially in a body of water with predatory fish such as pike, bass, perch. no way the shiners if released would cause harm. they would be fish food! hahahaha

This is probably a crazy question, but does anyone know of a place around Schroon Lake that rents snowmobiles or atvs?

Not to my knowledge. Schroon is quiet in the winter (outside of the tourney).

I'll be on the south end.   If there's any safe ice left after this warm spell.

Nice catch! Do the salmon interact on the flasher in the same way as lakers?

Thanks

I was there Wednesday with my 2-up Arctic Cat, went out of dock st, fished the middle of the lake down to a half mile south of the island. Ice was 8-10" everywhere I drilled. I can't comment on what happened after the rain and warmer temps on Thursday. There was more than enough ice to feel very comfortable on a machine at the time but the glare ice would have also made for real easy walking too.
