Typical late season on Schroon today.  Bunch of small perch, a nice bass, and a brook trout!  Challenge getting out, once you find a spot to get on, 15" solid ice.  Glad I had my Eskimo, wind was whippin'.

I've never seen a brook trout come out of the lake!  Did he show signs of being stocked?  Maybe he jumped into the tank of lake trout at the fish farm?  I've seen some rainbows and figured that was the case with them. I suppose he could have been introduced by bucket or made it downstream on his own too.

Nope, not a stockie, native.  Little fella, thought he was a baby laker when we jigged him up, but when we looked closer, sure enough, native brookie.  Same spot my buddy caught a 22" brookie last year.  Caught on a perch colored Hali and a grub!

I kinda did a double take on a 12" laker I caught today. Thought for a second it was a Brookie  too, but no halos around the dots. Definitely think it was just a baby laker.

I can't even imagine a 22" brookie.  Half the trout guys would give their 1st born to catch one of those!  I worked the kinderhook one year and caught a of of browns, but never a brook.

Looking to fish Schroon tomorrow and try for my first salmon or laker. Can anyone offer me a little guidance as to where I should be? Bait to use on tip ups? PM me if you want and I'm not asking for anyone's "secret spots" was just hoping for a point in the right general direction as most of my time on ice has been spent on pike so far. Thanks for any help!

Northern end....have to thank the gentleman for helping us catch it....he lost his...the ice is bad on the north end....we had it tied to the auger.... :o plus two anchors....never saw a weather report saying that much wind for yesterday. Then the shoreline giving out on us so wet feet....was an epic fail....

Records go by weight, there are 22 inchers, then there are 22 INCHERS.   The NYS record is over 6 lbs, the one my buddy Phil caught might have been half that.

Come on folks .
We were kind enough to throw an atv ramp to get onto the ice at eagle point today .
As the day went on knew it was going to be a wet exit off .
To throw a state property picnic table into the lake , AFTER getting wet for your buddies to walk off then leave it in the water is BS .
Gives us reason to lose access rights, use your darn heads folks

Yeah, that was me. You're absolutely welcome Oletimer. I didn't want to see that happen to someone else. Luckily it stopped long enough so I could grab it or it would have suffered the same fate. It was pretty crappy to watch my pop up shanty take total lift off, roll all the way to the end, and then end up in the Schroon river. I was more sad to have lost my dad's ice scooper than the shanty which just happened to be hooked inside. Never saw stakes rip out of the ice before. Guess I should have screwed them all in. Hard lesson to learn. My buddy said I should start a " Go Fund Me" page. LOL. At least I was able to catch one 20" laker before the true Epic Fail occurred.

We had 10" ice off eagle point . , ice is there , shore is fading fast with the sun .
It ought to be interesting reading next weekends reports .
If fishing be prepared, planks of 8'+ , extra boots , socks and pants .
Don't panic and don't chew what access there is up with a wheeler. There is absolutely no need for one on the lake with easy walking conditions.
Good luck and safe travels

Weather looks great for the tourney. Cold two days before, then mild and clear
Beer will get you through times of no ice better than ice will get you through times of no beer...

Weather was fantastic the last 3 days . 5 deg got us on the ice but once the sun hit the already shot shore it was toast .
One needs a 10' plank to access most shoreline.
Watched people come and go and the atv circus was hilarious
As they drove up , down and all around before leaving.

The tournament next weekend will be interesting ..
Everyone should bring plenty dry clothes and extra boots, waders would be a plus

My only plea is please don't trash the state access. Don't leave garbage in the lot or rip apart public picnic tables and such . Makes it look bad for everyone that uses but respects the privilege. It's easy for the state to just lock the gate . They ( dec) are watching 😉
The lake has been kind to me this season and hope it will next too
Be prepared for the conditions , have fun and leave no trace .
Peace & Tuna

One should always do that.  I always figure my behavior represents all others in whatever I'm doing.I can make an awful lot of people I don't know look bad if I'm not careful.

Good Weather and Good Fishing on Schroon today
We had 9 lakers from 15-24 inches
4 on tip ups and 5 on the jigs
All in 40-60 feet of water
The small bait and small jigs were the ticket today
