You did better than me. Had chasers just wouldnt hit. Think you were right next to us. I was with jimmy and terry
I apologize to everyone out there man.
The old dude I keep bringing out with me is blind as a bat and lucky to be getting out at all. He has to have that darn alarm on his fish finder at all times. Yesterday, his only cause for excitement was that maddening alarm for every marked fish. I drowned the sound out well knowing it was keeping him excited. Sorry if it annoyed you guys we set up near.
I pulled out all the stops to try like heck to get him his 1st lake trout. My one and only flag was so darn far that I ran out to tend to it hoping he'd follow. Forgetting the fact that he had no idea what direction I even went. He's blind, I'm dumb.  :P The fish spooled me before I got to it. I had to immediately tend to it and land the fish.
I lost a nice one on the jig 1/2 way to the hole. That new rod gave me more control than I'm used to, that's for sure. Dumped the fish when I dropped to my knees to yank the ducer out. I left my transducer directly on the ice for the rest of the day. I was shocked at how clear my flasher was fishing like that.
The angle of the dangle is directly proportionate to the heat of the beat.

Yeah i heard his flasher beeping. Lol No worries. Boy he got excited when he saw a big mark. Lol. I have used my ducer right on top of ice when clear ice. I will check re frozen holes sometimes but just putting ducer on top of the new ice. I gotta make sure previous person didnt leave any fishes down there.

North end was fine for ice yesterday. Started to warm up, then wind moved in and temps dropped. Holes were freezing over. Managed one 16"er.

Now today is nasty. I'd be careful going anywhere. Rain/sleet, winds and warm temps. I'll be out tmmrw either on schroon or down near port henry.

Several groups of guys out there today, diehards.  Pouring rain, temps freezing last night, currently 34*.  One cold night should button up things, at least from Narrows north.  That being said, extreme caution should be used when going on any lake this year, even usually reliable lakes like Schroon.

Negative, tried getting out on champ, but open water near shore where I wanted to go. Checked out a couple other spots. Schroon (north end) is still probably the safest.

Guys out on Schroon today, off Fowler, north of island, off rocky pt east shore.  Lots of water on ice.  Interestingly very little water on south end, which can't be a good sign.

Sat morning I'll be up to do somedrywall work.  I don't know if I trust the ice enough to even attempt to go out.  I saw earthworms at the surface today.

19" brown Trout caught on Eagle Lake today, 11" ice

Sorry not the greatest pics!

How far under the ice do you set your bait for those browns on eagle? I caught one last year pike fishing. Bait was about 4' under the ice.

Traditionally we set them 10-12 under the ice, but this one was caught 2' off bottom.  Nice thing about the new tipup law (7) you can really mix it up depth wise.  Caught on hunts.

North end of schroon has been safe for most of the season. Read up a few posts...also, SchrnLker has been posting great reports on the conditions board...

South end looks to be opening up.  Half the south channel is free of ice.  Along the shore, there was a lot more water at the end of yesterday than there was in the morning.  That said, both days there were numerous guys off eagle.  I could see somebody in the shaw hill area and I spotted a brave sole with a quad behind Brill island.

I just think there is a lot of danger on the south basin this year.  With snow showers forecasted all this week, the bad spots will be hidden.  Got to be smart and safe guys.

Thank you, Eaten by Limestone. I'll continue posting I suppose. Maybe someone has the answer -- How is ice between Fowler and the point across lake (where the final house is on north side of lake). I have been fishing this spot for years have never seen less than 12 inches of ice there. Temp will be dropping down this weekend but I'll be there fishing from Thur - Sun.
