Rigging tube jigs
« on: Mar 09, 2017, 08:03 AM »
How many run the jig all the way up the inside of the tube and poke the hook through the side?

How many run the jig head up the length of the hook shank and let the hook gap exit out the bottom of the tube in the skirt tassles?

Advantage to doing it one way or the other?

Sticking the jig head inside of the tube, makes the tube profile bigger - width wise.  Also less chance for air pocket in tube.  For some reason, I my bite rate goes way down rigged this way.

With jig hook threaded onto tube or just poking hook through tube head, I get more bites.  Tube is also more easily shredded.

I have to go with what the fish wants to bite.

I usually put the head in the tube about 2/3's of the way in.  Then put a barrel swivel about 3 feet above .... tip with a minnow part and it makes a great airplane jig. When bite gets tough I will throw a size 12 stinger hook about three inches back.  The lakers like to chase and nip the tail. Its amazing how big a laker you can catch on a little hook.
