Does anyone know the actual size of the 5 and 6 inch?
Sounds like the Russians made a good auger. Now if they could only make a garbage can!
I would guess they are close to the 5" or 6" I measured the hole on my 7" and it came out to be 7 3/8".  Why do you ask anyway?

So after using this thing about 5 trips out and the last trip I was cutting through some jagged ice and had a wobble in it at first I thought I would touch up the blades and see what they looked like. They were perfect and so I barely touched them up with a stone. Might have had a slight lip on one blade but nothing chipped or damaged. The replacement blades for this say right on them Made in Russia so I guess that is where I will always be able to get them. I have one extra set I bought the same day as the auger and one more set on the way from Sportsmans Guide.  Yeah I am very happy with this auger. And so far happy with the Ridgid Brushless drill.

Ok so I got my new blades and went out for the day. So far so good. No pressure on the auger other then the weight of the drill. It just sliced thru the ice. Hope it stays this way for awhile.  Best thing is blades are cheap for this auger.

Good to hear that. Sounds like there was a bad set on it when you got it but that happens sometimes. I bought a Eskimo 6" Silvertip and the second day out one of the blades broke in half. I got a hold of Eskimo and they sent me out a new set that never had any problems.

Could someone weigh their auger. I can’t find the weight online.  Interested to see how it stacks up to the competition.

.  Lefty, sorry to bump this old thread, but wondering how you still like this auger and how the blades have held up for you?

I used the same blades all last year and made about 20 trips out. drilled through 12-20" of ice and about 30 holes a trip. Very happy with it.

I got the 7" Mini Nero late season last year. Attached it to my dewalt 20 luthium...WOW, is absolutely everything I was hoping it would be. I have used Mora 8" and 4" for years, manually. Always had spare sharp blades, never a problem..except slow and sometimes tiresome. This Mini Nero is a rocket, and makes a beautiful fishing hole, unlike me when I run out of steam...lol

First time I tried my Nero was on 12" of ice. I hadn't used a hand auger in like 15 years and was pretty rusty at it plus the offset handle was new to me. I cut through 12" of ice in about 8 seconds. With drill same ice is like 6 seconds.

I haven't been on 12" ice since I started using a 7" Nero but  it does seem to cut at about 2"/second when powered by either a Milwaukee Fuel or Ridgid Octane. If you live in an

area that historically doesn't produce very thick ice or you don't drill many holes, you may well choose to forego the drill setups altogether and just hand drill. Sure a lot lighter and

less spendy.

Do they actually make/offer an 8" Nero? I saw one briefly on Reeds after I bought the 7" and was sad until they took it down. Haven't been able to find one elsewhere either. HT does not list one, perhaps the Reeds listing was a mistake.

No 8 inch. I believe that you are correct that the largest is 7 inch.

I will stop by the HT booth at the show today and see if they have plans for a larger one.

Thanks GF, you're the best. If it wasn't 5 hours for me I'd duck in myself. I miss the Milwaukee area show.

Great idea and I hope you report back. They're none too good at answering my emails and I had even thought of contacting Volzhanka, the Russians, to get their take. I've been an

8" hole man for at  least thirty years and never drilled a 7" hole until the two times I've been out this year. Rainbows to 19" came through the ice with no problem so I'll probably

just stick with the 7" going forward.

I just spoke to the guy at HT.

Good News. There will be a true 8 inch Nero for next season. They missed the window this year but it will happen.

Thanks for running that story down. The picture leaves me with some questions however. It appears to show Zach from HT holding a 6" Nero Convertible mounted to a Milwaukee

Fuel Hole Hawg. That's an awful lot of expensive  muscle to spin such a relatively small auger. I think of a 6" Nero as more of an easy cutting hand auger. You're going to need both

hands to hold the Hole Hawg so what do you do with the Nero's own handle while that's going on?

The handle should be removed but they may tell you if you don't use it it will still operate as a safety stop.
