Good cel phone
« on: Oct 11, 2013, 06:08 AM »
I have had one of those "military grade" Motorola phones for about four years now and love it. It has gone down many and ice hole, went swimming with me when the boat sank and has been dropped off a lot of ladders on to concrete, rocks, down stairs etc. It is finally starting to fail so I need to replace it. The problem is that ey quit making the phone!  :%$#!: does anyone have a suggestion on a phone that can stand up to a sportsmans lifestyle and have good battery life? I have been looking at reviews online but am only getting more confused. Thanks in advance for your help.  ;D

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active which is waterproof. I also have it in an Otter Box case which makes it even tougher. As with most smart phones battery life kind of sucks.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Or the best kind of phone is the one that you leave in the truck and dont have to worry about, and the best part is it is a legitimate excuse not to answer. ;)

I don't know many phones that will stand up to the abuse of being dropped down an ice hole and submerged in water. I will throw my hat in the ring for my basic Droid Razr, it lived the first year of it's life in my tool belt while I was framing steel studs and hanging drywall, it still works like new. Never had a case or a screen protector. I would often carry it in the front pocket with my sharp point drywall screws!

Luckily up here, there are still many places I can go to where I don't get a signal or even see another soul.  No more of legitimate excuse than that  ;).

To the OP, if you want one similar to the one you have/had than maybe the Samsung Rugby (as someone said) a few of the guys at work have that phone as they're not particularly careful with them and so far they keep ticking.

You could get a Galaxy S3 or 4 and put it in a Lifeproof case. Those things are tough as nails and waterproof too.  Not to mention they're slimmer and cheaper than the Otterbox Armor case.

There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the ice like an idiot! I won't tell you which side of the line I'm on.

I'm not sure about the newer droids.  They ticked me off a couple of years ago and I went iPhone.

I have the iphone5 with a lifeproof case.  I swim & I play music in the shower with it, it's pretty dang water proof.

I have the apps from precision trolling data, grog knots, navionics and I might add sonar phone and fish phone from vexilar, it's quite the valuable tool.

The battery life is not great.  It's fine sitting around with no apps running, but if you start using it to find with GPS apps and it goes fast.  I purchased an enercell charger to keep with me for reassurance, I can get about 1.5 full charges from it.

Exactly what he said. I have the otter armor box and it's great. It ain't cheap, but it will save your phone from anything. Except grizzlies, robots, and crazy girlfriends.

I had a Casio ravine for a few years till I got an iPhone. That thing can take some serious punishment and the battery on it is amazing.

Haha,  I played with those otter boxes on a friends phone, I wasn't really a fan, bulky, weighed twice as much, definitely provided a lot of protection though.  I also wasn't a fan of the Lifeproof fre, so  I tried the Lifeproof Nuud and have really liked it.

If you get an iPhone, yes the otter box is a big bulky case, but for how small the iPhone is the case makes a huge difference and helps you hold and or handle the phone much better in your hands in my opinion. Most of all my friends all have the iPhone with other cases and it's a little hard to handle, but a few other friends also have the otter armor (bulky case) and they also agree that the case makes it easier to hold and mess around on the phone or any other phone you may go with. I went with the armor this year becaus I plan on taking a bunch of photos while out on the ice and don't want it to get wet just increase. The case already saved my expensive phone 4 times. Already paid for itself.

I have had the Casio GzOne for many years.  Has gone through what yours has and maybe then some.  Still going strong.  Plus I like the old style flip phone.
