ICE FISHERMAN DIES TODAY IN NEW JERSEY
« on: Dec 27, 2004, 11:40 PM »
Don't be in such a haste to go ice fishing that you ignore the basic safety rules!!!

A New Jersey ice fisherman died today while fishing the Passaic River when the ice beneath him gave way.  Obviously he ignored the safe ice thickness rules!

Don't be a fool just to catch a few fish!!!!

Always a bummer to hear of someone dieing ice fishing.  A guy I went to school with died a few years ago ice fishing.  He wasn't wearing creepers and fell and fractured his skull.  Needless to say I won't fish without them again.

I drove over that river on my way to work,  noted how nicely locked up it was.   Then 10 minutes later i heard about it on the radio.   Creepy, disturbing stuff  :(

Thats a shame that one of our brothers had to loose their lives due to the search of the trophy.. It just goes to show how much we need to watch where we are and what we are doing.. I feel for his friends and family and pray for them to find peace sometime down the road.
Ice fishing is Gods gift to winter...

I guess that's why  I don't icefish rivers, they are too dangerous if the ice breaks you are swept under and will die. You have way less of a chance to get out like you do in a lake if you fall through. Now he may well be in a better place...hope his family is alright.
if anybody from michigan will help me out with the lakes and stuff up here I'd really appreciate it since I'm new to the area.

You people who fish on rivers are asking for it. I like waking up in the morning.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

the saco river here in maine is one of my favorite places to fish open water, but i steer clear of it in winter. not every river flows the same, not even close.but moving water freezes slower you cant argue that.now as fm said not every area of a river is just gushing to the ocean ,there are eddys and deep holes and everchanging underwater structure.because of the inconsistency of the ice ...i stay away!!

Very sad to hear, for whatever reason he went under. Accidents happen, regrettably. His family is in my prayers. Be safe out there!
