No way a bait caster will drop line faster then a spinning set up. Maybe if you have a 3 oz jig head. You can roll braid off a spinning reel faster then it will sink .
Yes . I like the direct feel of a bait cast real for jigging lakers. No they don't drop as fast but it's a good set up with the right one. That said, a good one is not cheap. Reel size matters, quality matters. A large bass baitcaster is awkward and not rod balanced. I spent $110.00 on an Abu garcia 4600 c3 ambassador that felt right in size and quality. It's a lot to pay for a specialized application on just the reel
Ahhhhh you need lews!
Thanks that does help. Sure I would find other uses for the reel as I do plenty of fresh water, saltwater, inshore, offshore from everything from Tiny native Brookies up to several hundred lb swordfish and tuna and everything in between. Sure a small profile baitcaster would get use one way or another.
Baitcasters offer some advantages, though I tend to lean towards spinning setups for most applications. Baitcasters have more winching power and I feel they aid in solid hooksets.
Out of the hundreds of lakers you touched last season did you have any hook set issues using a spinning rod? Tony's got new blanks for this season...very excited to put one to the test.
Nope, and that is why I lean towards spinning rigs. Don't think I don't already have my order in.
I used the calcutta and makinaw 1x on champ. It makes sense to use a winch there.
Winching can help with numbers sometimes. Not too mention less line twist.
Best ice flasher and go
It can do that for sure. We need to get out there again this year!
There is no chance that won't happen
lolwishful thinking the king may be ready possibly by MLK weekend if the frigid temps continue never by new years day
First time I’ve used this so sorry for being on the wrong thread because not too sure where to go yet, but does anyone know if any lakes in the adks have 5ish inches yet. Thinking about abanakee/piseco.
Water temp 39.9, turnover about to begin
